Been wanting to make this for a while, so far I've done the easy part, plus with only a few modifications, I'll be able to turn the container into a truck!

Awesome start. This has always been one of my favorite BSG ships because it really portrays the sense of finding literally any ship that could carry people and heading for the stars. I can't wait to see more. :thumb:

Thanks, I am stuck until I can find the font they used on the show, I suppose I should be modeling the rest of the ship, but I wanted to texture the containers first.

Always loved this ship. Truly gives the fleet a sense of depth in class and travel. Makes the fleet seem more like a trucking convoy seeing as though it contains such heavy load ships. You've made a super start.

Looks good Rich.
One of the ship that was not touched for the re-imaging.
Any plans to do a pic of Vipers coming out of one the container, like in the Hand of God?

Havent seen that ep, but assuming I ever get this finished, we'll definitaly be seeing some vipers in the same image.

Thanks, I think I have some good images already, but more would probably come in handy.

In the meantime, does anyone recognise this font?

Great job so far!

I dont really have any screen grabs, I am basing all this off a web page with the physical model on, and I'm not sure if its the TOS or new version.

biotech

I'm thinking of adding running lights to the containers, it would make sence, I dont know if the new version has those, I know the TOS one probably didnt.

I've been tweaking the textures again, logos are no longer pure black, burns correctly wrap around edges.

Still needs some more dirt and scratches, maybe a seperate map entirely for spec.

Forcemaster2000
30th Jan 2007, 23:55
Looking great so far! The running lights would make sense to me, even if it's not canon. Maybe even put them on in a seperate layer so they could be turned off for a more traditional look, or turned on to jazz up the image.

Well unless any references turn up that tell me different, they are empty on the filming models too, plus really hard to see with all six containers in place.

biotech
9th Feb 2007, 10:12
Thanks, theres a lot of greebles inside the engine I need to add, so still a fair amount of modeling and most of the textures to do on the engines before I can start work on the front.

Trouble is most of this weekend is going to be spent decorating the bathroom, so the textures I'll be applying over the next few days will be paint and wallpaper, with the occasional bit of plaster.

biotech
10th Feb 2007, 12:51
Got a bit of a break between painting, so managed to whip this up.

I think I might have to save some of my textures as jpgs instead of keeping them paintshop, some of them are refusing to load, and I keep getting vertual memory problems.

mental|plate
11th Feb 2007, 13:48
Well you could mix 4k and 2k maps, 4k for the parts that are exposed, and 2k for the less exposed parts.....but when i think about it...this ship is all exposed...so it dont make any sence.

biotech
11th Feb 2007, 13:57
Yeah, but unless you are going to render each part that has a 2K map at higher than 2K resolution, chances are people wont see the pixels start to show.

Max has stopped throwing a wobbler since I changed all the finished maps to Jpegs anyway, but I still have the original photoshop files to amend if I need to.

Just about done I think, tried to blur the lines as much as I could.

You could try adding a bit of damage to the actual structure as well. Maybe have one of the sets of ladders/steps be a bit twisted, like some space debris bumped into the ship and contorted its shape a little?

They dont have that on the one on the show, but its a good idea.

dosen't hurt to make a few of your own changes.
That is if you don't mind not having it identical to the shows.

Excellent work Rich. I thought you've given up on the ship... :)

yeh it is seen in the opening battle of season 4, in one of the many uber closeups of some of the fleet ships you see.

Good model.
