Something I did based on meni's NCC-1000. It seemed a shame to waste the work so I'm posting it here. Not much I can do with it now. :)

Very, Very Nice Job. I love this design.

Dark SAber,
Thanks! And, before anyone says anything, yes I'm aware that the shuttle in silhouette is a Class F from TOS. I just used it for scale since I had one handy. I'm going to design the other embarked craft for this at some later point if there's enough interest in seeing it.

Awesome work, Irishman!:thumb: It is great to see a rendition of the NCC-1000 in orthographic views. Is it possible that the nacelles are of the warp seven type? Might she be a warp 7 starship, she seems to have some elements of the NX and the Constitution Class?

The specs on the Pic say she can go Warp 7.25 max.
Dosnt anybody read the text on images around here?

Somebody did a 3D version of this before the crash, but I can't remember who it was. I haven't seen it since things came back online.
Great job as always, Irishman. We should call you the king of orthos. :thumb:

Thanks, guys. She was fun to make, and I got really excited when I saw how great the fore and aft views were coming out. Those views really have a mono-prop WWII fighter feel to them, courtesy of the deflector and hull arrangement.

Absolutely Gorgeous, i can't wait to see the other embarked craft for this ship as well!

14th Jun 2006, 15:25
Yeah, one thing I've always wanted to do for a Trek ship of this period was to show a more well-rounded complement of embarked craft, which is why I gave a nod to the precursor to the TOS F Class Warp Shuttlecraft (Class E figures in prior to that here), a Class A shuttlepod sublight-only, presumably smaller but with very similar lines.

This is my first post so "monkeygrass" to everyone.
I remember this ship first from one of the "Ships of The Line" calenders and then from the post referenced by Evil_Genius_180. This is definitely one of the logical steps to the "Big-E." ( "No bloody A, B, etc...")
BTW "Monkeygrass" is the traditional first-time calleer greeting on "The Rick and Bubba Show" out of Birmingham, Al. The hosts ( guess who ) appeared on MSNBC the past 2 nights discussing the Dixie Chicks latest. If anyone would like to get a good belly-laugh go to http://www.rickandbubba.com I hope that's correct. If not do a google and it shouild be close to the first entry.

What do you think of this idea (very WIPish) for a Class A sublight shuttlepod? Probably 2 man, three at the most. I may scale it up later. Depends on how I feel about its mission needs.

That shuttlepod looks cool, but are you designing a normal shuttle for the Carolina too or does it only carry shuttlepods? That does matter for the scaling of the ship...
[Irishman]
21st Jun 2006, 14:04
Borgman, I will be designing a normal warp-capable shuttlecraft for the Carolina. This shuttlepod is more of the local-area workhorse. I imagine it would be used more than the warp shuttle would be. I'm basing this on how many times in TOS did we see a shuttle at warp? Very rarely. Most often it was used for landing party transfers, something this smaller shuttlepod could do more efficiently.

Gheheheh, now I know for sure: SketchUp HATES me. Especially when I up the standard section count of a circle from 24 to 96 and start fooling around with it. Oh well, the only time when I have trouble with it is when I copy-paste one half and stick it to the other. That takes about 5 minutes :p
Anyway... I think I'll be making it's own thread over at 3D WIPS for this little baby :) It's got already over the 21.000 faces, I must confess that I don't know for sure what it means but it sounds like a lot :p

Very original idea to place the promary hull within the secondary hull. Would be interested in seeing what you believe this vessel could do. I have seen some that believe a frigate design is a very lightly armed ship that is made to get to a trouble spot very quickly. While that is the current designation in the navy, that is usually dealing with a situation where there would be no significant counter threat. That would not always be the case in Star Trek's universe with baddies such as the Klingons, Romulans, Tholians, Gorn and others hanging about. They may need to get some muscle to places in a hurry. While not armed as heavily as a cruiser, I believe they would be armed heavier than a destroyer which is built to travel in numbers.
Good ship, I called it the 1000th Mile, myself and did stats for it.

Looks great, al though how can it be both ~THE~ USS Carolina of the Carolina class; and yet also be not the first, but the 22nd in line? :shiner:
When I did the stats, I made it a Warp 6 ship, and then statted it in the Pre-Enterprise Pre-OS way, with Nukes and Lasers.

Awesome, thought I must point out that the upper front face of the shuttle shouldn't really bend inward like that. If your were going for a slight bend like the original shuttle, it's convex, not concave. Or you could make it a flat face and save time.
The shape is gorgeous though.

This reminds me strongly of a ship in the Star Trek Ships of the Line calender. Were you involved in that image?

Now normally I don't even like Trek all that much,
But Damn... That is a really nice design you have there. Well done. I really like how you removed the fragile looking "neck", while still maintaining the original feel of TOS, and yet while also giving it it's own unique style and design.
Good Job man.

So is it better to PM the comment to the artist personally?
Or is it just... considered offensive to comment on very old threads?
