Thanks... Working on changing to old "Legacy" display in most of the conference rooms. For this ship, I was thinking on having 2 vertical display areas. one on each side of the large display. Segment those in to 4 bays each. Then, instead of placing a model of the ships, we put in holo models rotating, each with a bust of their most notable commanders.

Still have to get this cleared by ASR, but its a concept to work on.

looking for other ideas to try as well

Sure... Maybe a table that retracts into the floor.

And maybe I shouldn’t have said coffee/tea doesn’t work so much as it is a recipe for disaster. Every time someone has it on the bridge it gets spilled and the ship gets tossed about.

Just have the cups generate their own gravity field, no matter how much they're tossed around, the liquid is drawn toward the bottom of the cup ;)

Countdown5
18th May 2006, 23:34
Then how do you drink it?

Captain Boh
18th May 2006, 23:36
Mouth sensors. When you're trying to drink, the gravity field changes to allow liquid to flow toward the mouth.

Alternativly, people could use sport waterbottles or sippy cups ;)

Coventry is going to go one further. I really didn't think about a ship's bell, but there was a plan to have large models of the this version and a large model of the HMS Coventry (D118) in the Lounge area or a display in the Ship's Messhall. I think the original bell from the HMS Coventry would be appropriate for that (in a RP setting of course).

There have been eight or nine Coventrys, ranging from a 42-gun capital ship that was seized by the French, then retaken by the Brits, only to have it sunk by the French a short time later, to a modern Frigate (F98) that was recently sold to another country. To my knowledge, there isn't a [i]Coventry[/] in service right now.

Our Coventry is a nod to the Type 22 Destroyer class HMS Coventry, D-118, what was sunk during the Faulkland War. The destroyer was sunk by Argentinian fighters, using missiles, with the loss of nineteen crewmembers.

For continuity purposes, the Coventry's that follow the F98 are as follows:

HMS Coventry, CL125
HMS Coventry, D256
USS Coventry, NCC-967, the first Coventry-class (non-canon kitbash)
USS Coventry, NCC-1267, a Larson and Larson II class- frigate
and then the current destroyer model, the 81420-series destroyer which the USS Coventry is the class namesake.

These other Coventry's would be displayed as the holographic models in the officer's lounge.

Its spelt the Falklands, but yup HMS Coventry was struck by three bombs from an enemy Argentine aircraft, capsized and sank off the Falkland Islands on 25 May 1982 with the loss of 19 of her crew. Her weapons had managed to shoot down two of her attackers earlier in the day, but at a crucial moment during a later attack, her anti-aircraft missile system suffered a fault and locked down, allowing the remaining aircraft an opportunity to hit her.

Nice to see, that your adding a referance to that :)

Thank you and thank you for the correction. I didn't know the details surrounding the sinking or even that she had managed to dispatch two of her attackers. That's good stuff to know.

Even Coventry's shuttle craft bear the names (last names only) of some of those who didn't make it that day. Thought that was also fitting tribute to the D118.

It will be to work in. But the housing would be just a shell. I figured the back wall would be for all the tools and such. Docking lifts above the arrow would raise and lower it onto the doors before they open and after they close.

I can see where you and Borgman are coming from with this. But I gotta say the height works. It may look a little strained from the ortho front view, but it looks great when framed at every other angel.

Anyway, Im just the builder... You have to talk to ASR-CO-Coventry about any redesigns. The only thing I get some creative licensing on is the underside of the saucer, since it was never seen in drawings.

ASR CO COVENTRY
18th Dec 2006, 20:30
311m by 208m by 66m, grossing 801,669 mT(stats for the MK I)...actually bigger than a INTREPID/CHARON (whch is what it is known as in ASR) frigate hull. When comparing her against a NEBULA/HOOD or a MONTU/AKIRA-class, she actually could be a small CL. She is the third largest DD class in ASR's Starfleet at the moment...and two of the DD classes are getting ready to be replaced by the COVENTRY and LEWIS-class designs. The VENTURE is slated to replace the CHARON and PATHFINDER soon as well...at least that was the plan at one point. Current RP units who use a CHARON or a PATHFINDER will probably stay that way until their COs request the switch-over.

I have a crew of 108...the COVENTRY/KRONSHTADT planform, along with the others (VENTURE, LEWIS, YURASAGI/FEARLESS, and the REGENCY) all represent newer classes with a higher degree of automation therefore smaller crews. The COV, the KRON, and the LEWIS were the last ones of my class designs to have the standard impulse engine as opposed to the newer gravity-planing drive concept (the FEARLESS was the test bed for this drive system).

Well...I should say the CD5's PHOENIX an impulse driven vessel but Capt' Hunter's CHIMERA is a GPD.

Although the AKIRA was used as inspiration...the object was not to copy the AKIRA...which is what we have done: use ideas from that ship and see how it would work in another application. The high hump design is fixed right now, making it a ship with her own lines but showing some evolution from a past design.

CD5's stretching of the ENG hull seems to have added some sleekness to her as well and the revamp of the underhull at the fantail has turned out well.

CD5: are we still changing that upper bay into a torp launcher? If you are, I would stretch that section back...maybe half way to that cut. I'm liking this sleeker version of the ship...taken some the original utilitarian/all business out without loosing that feel.

You dont want to loose the "Coventry" feel for the ship, just make it a wee bit more sleeker. Personally I like the design, the design of the Coventry and this newer version, I just wanna love it! hehe :)

I will never make another pontoon ship as long as I live!!! (Oh wait... Phoenix is. CRAP!!!)

If your talking about the down curve I built in (red), that was never meant to be any kinda launch/cargo bay. Just a hull support piece. Now there is a little outcropping on the bottom of that.(Blue) I had intended to work in a launcher of some sort there.

Ah OK...that works...she's shaping up. Like I said I'm glad you stretched her a bit.

The beauty of the PHOENIX is the pontoons are in line with the saucer.:thumb:

Okay, even though ASR CO Coventry is "in-cog-moving" right now, I thought I would still move this along a little. So I started in on the core room... Not much.

All of your renders are EXTREMELY dark. Any chance you could turn on a few lights in there for us? And no, it's not my monitor - mine's pretty well calibrated and this is the only thread on the site right now that is this dark.

Just some lighting tests and roughed out the first few stations...

Looking great, much better lighting now (even in the first two renders). I love the effect that cartoon shader gives the three newer images.

Aresius

nice... Though I would suggest to make a catwalk over the EPS transfer-tubes... Or generally a casing for them... Such freely on the ground I sense them rather as a threat than as good stored...

thanks... I just find that the Cel rendering helps with accuracy during the physical modeling.

I take it you haven't seen the original 2D layout...

ASR CO Coventry does have a walkway over it... But I was going to speak to him about extending the island with the MSD station so that the top step of it over hangs the PTC. Some kind of grating.

Aresius
28th Mar 2007, 20:19
Well... I'd say there's a walkway over it... The PTC-crossovers...
But yes, I haven't see this yet...

Countdown5
28th Mar 2007, 21:21
Yea... When I saw those i thought they looked a little odd having a short walkover bridge with steps end just before the steps for an island raise. Working on it...

Playing with a few core designs...

Any thoughts on which one to advance?

Maybe it's because I'm influenced by the direction ST:O seems to be taking... but I think the third one is much better than the other two.

PerfectAgent007

I say do the third one but change it so there's like four inner columns and rescale the outer framework to match. A cross that's 80% 3rd design and 20% 2nd design if you will.

Thats kinda what i wanted to try next. I was thinking the ribbed style tubes with the support framework of #3.

I like number 3.

Nadesico

the third looks the most "unique" of the 3, the others have been seen before on the Defiant/Ent-E and the first just looks incomplete, if that makes sense.

Well their all very much incomplete. These are just the initial rough concepts... Why finish a design if it wont work later.:D

Aresius
30th Mar 2007, 20:21
right, but in fact, the third one gives this ship this 'new' image...

Maybe it's off some weird thoughts, but every new ship they introduced to public had new bridge, new engineering and new sickbay... So I think keep with that...

Countdown5

OH CRAP... Iv already got so much for this project, now I have to do a Sick bay as well...

I still have to frame in the base of the tubes... I'm hoping to keep it close to the original 2D design. The quad designs just seemed to work well.

I do think it would be better with a "larger" core tube, but if I had to pick between the 3rd and 4th I would still choose the 3rd.

I like the core as it looks in the latest post. Very chunky. I like chunky.

A good warp core but aren't they usually taller? Are all these for a fan film? If they are, it's going to look very good.

Well technically it is larger... you just cant see it. With how they had the MSD set up for this design, the usually visible down tube was hidden below the deck.

As far as I know its just for the PBeM ASR game... Now my Phoenix project might be for a Fan-Film. I do have a partial script for that.
