Well it started with the Viper Mk II and blowed up big into 24 ships from the new Battlestar Galactica series.

See link below for 80+ closeup images of the various ships.

Wow... looks great. My only thought is that the "ring" ship is bigger than it should be. According to SCI-FI you are correct, but in the show it never looked that big... at least I didn't think so... could be wrong. Anyways very impressive ships!! :thumb:

SWEET JESUS! You did all this yourself?!? That's some impressive work!

So that's what Cloud 9 looks like? I never could get a feel for that ship from the short clips they had in the show.

I also noticed in the Photobucket files that you added your own livery for the liner. Nice!

Great work, I am from the HW2 BSG mod and we would like to know if you are going to make those ships available to Mods? We have a few of the models but man you have the full set and they are quite amazing.

With that kind of work, come join the team!

Anyway great work keep it up. If you are interested in putting those ships into the mod come visit us here.

Right you need to get a new web host. As your current webhost trys to force spyware software into the visiting persons PC... It also gives lots of popups trying to get you to install the program. And each time you select cancel it trys to load its self again. So dont post websites like that and get yourself a new host. As if you keep things that way you will never produce the publicity you need to keep your mod going.

Coxxon
24th Jul 2006, 18:16
Thanks for all the compliments. I'm glad you liked them.

I actually built the Mk2, BSG, Raider and a few others way back in the fall of 05, but then back in May 06 I finally starting modeling again after a several month hiatus from them, starting with the Mk7. After that it was about 16 ships done in 8 weeks. whew.

As for the scale, while about three of em have pretty much speculative sizes, the rest are based off available measurements, and screen cap comparisions with other ships in the scene. (The Pegasus is big, but no it's not that big, And the Park ship is.) But then again size of vehicles in SF are always a bit conflicted.

I'm sorta planning on using them in a mod for the new Star Trek legacy game or one of the newer FPS. So I probably won't be releasing them to the public - at least not at the moment.

I've gotten several requests to use them in space based RTS mods, but even though these models are low poly compared to what most people here do (and certainly for film and TV use) they are still too big (too many polys) for stuff like HW, SA2 or SC. That's kinda why I'm waiting to see what the new ST Legacy game will be like.

Also some people have requested orthos or side views. I'll have to see what I can get up as time permits, but I do hope to update with more pictures in the future.

EvilleJedi
24th Jul 2006, 19:01
Hw2 can easily handle models in the 10K-20K range and especially in the case of BSG where the number of large ships is low. The viper mkII I made for solstyces mod is around 4K polys at its most detailed lod. I know that Beyond the Red Line for Freespace SCP has a galactica that is up in the 25K range (modelled all the ribs and major panels)

btw I love the detailing on the fleet ships, most people never put the effort into civie vessels, great work.

Safe@2nd
24th Jul 2006, 19:33
Nicely done!!

Like EvilleJedi said, not a lot of people put much emphasis on civy ships let alone fleshing out the whole fleet like you did. There are a lot of other venues that would benefit greatly from this kind of treatment.

I'm interested in the new Trek game too. Not 'cause I'm a huge Trek fan, just because it's a chance to get to see all the ships from the various shows together in one place.

If it fits your needs, I'd definitely like to see your mod!

Solstyce
26th Jul 2006, 22:27
Well we know HW2 can handle them or i wouldnt have asked, heh, like EJ said those ships are super sweet and great detail. I hope you change you mind and release them because they would go along way to giving the BSG community some great mods. As far as our website we are in the process of working up a new host. So give us a break we used what we could to get started.

I also hope they become available in the future. Incidently FS2's Galactica is over 37k and Pegasus is around 60k ATM (In game).

Just as references, they would go a long way in helping others figure out how a mesh is supposed to look.

Don't know its name. I just call it the silo ship. It is first seen from the underside real quick as it flies over the doctor's office with Rosalyn in the mini. It also appears in a few scenes in the series as a background ship.

I've just noticed and read through this thread and I've been thinking that these meshes and textures are crying out, "PAPERMODELS!"

Coxxon, I sent a pm earlier. Ignore it as I managed to download them in the end. Fantastic! Great meshes and superb textures. Colonial one and the Raptor in particular look great. Not that any don't look great but these two caught my eye, probably 'cause they're two of my fav designs anyway.

Keep it up buddy.:thumb:

Mine's the 4.0 version, I just double click on the object. Then a mini screen pops upcalled properties of object ..., select materials, double click the texture of object name in the list. Than a new mini menu pops upcalled material properties. Double click "diffuse", then select the material/texture. It applies it.

I think you can select other options besides "diffuse", I'm still new to the program but it is really good.

You can get a 30 day trial from the Right Hemisphere site.

I love seeing complete pictures showing all off a certain fleet, and your work is exceptional.

Have you considered doing an overlap, so to speak, with ships from the original series? Not like you don't already have your hands full with this massive undertaking. So don't consider that a request, just a question.

Grzesiek's Stargate ships of the line thread is similar and I'm a big crossover fan (yes I know that's taboo but everyone has their vices right?) , so I think a combined picture would look fantastic. Something to think on.

Keep up the fantastic work!

great stuff, you hardly see that they are low poly, how high is the polycount of these? did you consider to work that into some game-engine?

Really like what you've done in the updated pack - :thumb:
Just wondering, have you created any of the stations, Anchorage or the Armistice station?

Coxxon, any chance of releasing the bump maps for more of the ships like you have with Pegasus in this latest pack? Galactica at the least?

Your models are awesome, I've learned alot about modeling and mapping studying them.

I know, that's why I already made one for Galactica and used it to tweak the texture to make it look more like the Zoic textures that are floating around out there. However it's not a true bump map, since it has details like lighting that shouldn't be on a bump map. I assume Coxxon generates his straight from his original layers, not from the composited textures.

Awesome set of models. Really outstanding work you've done... and thank you so much for sharing the with all of us.

One question? In the second version pack, what are the textures for Starbuck and other characters for? Should we anticipate some more releases in the near future?

Thanks again - these are really great!
