Good to see SciFi meshes back online :)

Well this would be a good way to start the whole thread all over again :)

*-----------------------------------------------------------------*

Introduction :

The Omiqron project is a project I've been working on for 2 years already and recently decided to turn into a collaboration project. We are a team of 30 people at the moment doing our best to realise something worthy to watch.

About the project :

We're trying to realise a full-length movie (~1h30) everything done in CG.
The story is set in a huge metropolis where we find a "huge lab". After a war of several years between vampires and humans who tried to live together calm is coming back to the city of Omiqron but with the lab being build some weird things started to happen. The destiny of the humans is in the hands of the vampires, and that of the vampires in the hands of humans. Will they manage?

Thread and website :

the Scifi-Meshes thread : Project
The "Official" Website : Website (omiqron.caveman-digital.com)

We laso recently decided to open up the forums a bit more to the public. We're getting more and more known with everything hiding behind movie production and its great fun to learn all this. So we decided to create a public part on the forums where we and the visitors can share experiences, tutorials, information, and most of all the passion for movies and movie making
So just drop by at : omiQron [Restless Eternity] (http://forum.caveman-digital.com) and check out the Movie-Making section and if you like it feel free to register aswell (isn't much yet but we're working on it )

Enough talk lets move on to the pics ;)

The only thing I can criticise is that the Swat Leader's ass is a bit too flat, or too sway back.

here goes with some very small updates of concept I recieved yesterday thought I should post them before making an even bigger update :)

and this is some more concept for weapons :) the crossbow is for one of the main characters

hmmmm nice and interesting... good work !!!

The_Caveman
12th Jun 2006, 15:38
thanks strangeman glad you like it :)

here goes with some more updates (you'll probably say hum they go from futuristic to medieval?? euhm well yes. We started working on the "film" itself aswell next to the trailer and in this film we plan on doing a rather big medieval battle explaining some positions of the different vampire clans we have etc. so that is why the medieval art :) )

(I know it isnt really 3D either so maybe if needed a moderator could move it to the animation or some other place where it belongs because it is going into a lot of directions at the same time)

here are some new drawings made by: eljko Matuško aka Sedeslav

see attachment

and to stay close to the futur:

These are all really nice. The story itself seems a bit cliche, but put some interesting twists and some good fights and I'd easily watch the whole thing.

On a different note, can we get a tutorial on the cityscape? I mean, not the really greebled one, the close up view.

The_Caveman
14th Jun 2006, 08:56
Thanks Piuro for the comments. We're trying to avoid to much of a cliché and that is why we'll probably be chaning the script over and over again with the different inputs from the team :) I hope we'll be able to bring up something worth to look and normally we should have some nice battles :)

for the tutorial we can manage that I think. but not sure what exactly you would like to know and is it the blueish first image you're talking about or the more detailed image? let me know and I'll write one :)

thanks for the comments

The second one, the close up. I just think the "Vampires" and "Fate of Eachother" things have been done far too often.

Hmmm... looking for a proofreader?

Very very nice work. And really nice to see some movies being shown here.

The_Caveman
14th Jun 2006, 12:18
Thanks Berticus

Thanks Grzesiek aswell

true true Piuro. Both have been done alot but then again it is kinda impossible to do something original because we're always inspired by something (I think :) ) but the way I would like to show vampires in this movie is slightly different from what you see in a lot of vampire movies (I hope again). I'd love to give them some sort of soul, human aspect (which they should have lost) not make them appear like the "eternal bad guys" but represent the humans as the bad ones (well at least that is what I'm trying and it isnt a 100% original but ohwell we're just trying to have some fun and with posts like yours and everybody else on these forums it makes it even more fun a real motivation :D )

you mean this one : http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=835&d=1147961667 right?

just to let you know that we're working on it. We're even doing a complete from concept -> 3D (going through the different stages) for you :). If you would like anything more specific let me know if not we should have it pretty soon :)

Well we're still alive. things are moving quite good. 3D Models start popping up a bit everywhere on the forums so I'm happy

the drawing still goes good aswell.

We had a first meeting with the voice actors for the trailer/teaser and will be recording some samples in the following week(s)

here are some updates

first of all the new train/transport concept made by Pmaz our newest concept artist (guy has some good skills )

in the sketches made by sedeslav we have this week :flippy:
sketches made by sedeslav :

the main character Jake ( male main character) and his friend who is going to die ( )
Omiqron Lab and jakes vehicule and some vampire rebels for in the trailer
and last but not least at all : the main character herself: Abigail
(this all in the attachement below :) )

now time for some 3D :P

and once again last but not least :

the industrial area modelled by James (http://james.-caveman-digital.com)

even higher rez: available here : http://www.3d-caveman.com/team_ftp/James_disconnected/indsheet1.jpg (have a look at it it is really amazing in detailing )

a quick note to save this thread from the dark and scary abysses of scifi meshes.

this project is still alive and kicking. We had some problems with people leaving but all of that is resolved and the concepts that we lost has been remade.
We started on the 3d parts and models start popping up
animation also has been started so I should have a real update pretty soon

in the meanwhile help me keep this thread out of the darkness :P

thanks for watching

Question: do you have a cityplan?

The_Caveman
11th Aug 2006, 07:50
Thanks Mex, I really hope so aswell :)

for the city, when I started modelling there wasn't really any, now we made a heightmap on which I'm supposed to draw the city layout but it takes quite sometime lol. so right now it is still the map I made before the 3d model but this will probably change :)

thanks for your comments

welcome to the omiQron car factory :p.

first model made by Steve Cowling, second one made by diddy and the last two made by myself and textured aswell during the last two days.

Awesome stuff, tho personally, I'm not too sure on the cars tho. Also, I see a typo on the character picture. The word "porject", should be "project". At least, I assume it is a typo.

The_Caveman
17th Aug 2006, 13:56
Lool thanks Mex and Lord Ravensburg. Post like just makes me want to have more time to work on it (damn job :p)

thanks Lord Erisu aswell :). True about the cars. I think (not sure will have to test it) the biggest problem is the light setup. we passed from the scanline renderer to mental ray because of several reasons, the carpaint material was one of those but well now we have to find the right light setup and rework everything but I felt like showing some progress though :). If you think the problem might be somewhere else feel free to let me know :) always open for comments and crits :D. (ah and yes there is a typo in there :? )
thanks again everybody for leaving a message and for those who just pass by and have a quick glimps in here aswell :)

Lord Erisu
18th Aug 2006, 08:40
Ok, personally, I'm still not too keen on it:). The headlights, I like even less. But that is just a texture issue. I'd have to look at my mums car to be sure, but I think the glass coverings got some sort of pattern on it. Or something. But again, I'd have to look at my mothers car. But atm, they don't look v.glassy to me. Sorry, half-asleep.

Is it a 4x4 version of the Mini??

Grzesiek
18th Aug 2006, 09:47
one thing that bugs me is the reflection. It looks like the windows haven't been manufactured correctly. to many distortions. Same thing for the entire car. Reducing the noise on the reflection will help a lot.

Intresting desing of the headlights. But yeah, kind of wierd. sepecialy the outer edges of the bottom light section. They seem to distort the shape of the front too much.

Beyond that :) NICE.

Zhor2395
18th Aug 2006, 11:38
more?

The_Caveman
19th Aug 2006, 22:00
Thanks for the replys everybody.

I changed the headlight texturing (which reveals what is behind those lights :) )
I changed the window material aswell and I dropped HDRI and went for a true lightsetup with an environnement map which creates the reflections :).

The design of the vehicule has been inspired by the GMC Graphite and by the audi Q7 but it is a new design (inspired by others of course :) )

I added a little render of what is inside aswell it isnt to high poly but Ihad some fun creating some sort of leather texture :)

http://caveman-digital.com/team_ftp/Jozef/private/omiqron_transport10.jpg

the other render is in the attachement because of the size (250kb not that much but you never know :) )

thanks for viewing, if there is something to crit or comment feel free to do so :)

20th Aug 2006, 03:16
Its got an NFS look to it. Nice and shiney... but too short for my personal taste. I still think the front looks like the front of a mini.

But its looking much better with those headlights dude.

The_Caveman
21st Aug 2006, 08:31
Thanks Berticus and thanks Lord Erisu aswell :). I looked up the mini and well now I see it you're kinda right hehe.

well here is something completly different then the cars (still working on the four of them :) ) but this picture has been in the making for almost 3 months

the main artists on this were/are (because some more work is left on it :) ) :

Jaison Duell Wilson (Texturing)
James Astley (3D Modeller)
Ron Foskett (3D Modeller)
James Azzopardi (3D Modeller)
Jozef van Eenbergen (3D Modeller, Project Leader).

It represents one of the main street we'll be using for a first animation sequence for the actual project. The street is rather abandonned and in a post-war state
A lot of hard work has been put into this by all of those people and I would like to thank them a lot for there dedication to the project.

Thank you for watching

Ah underworld :D lovely movie. pitty that in the second one they had to put this love scene between the two. Made it a bit to Titanic looking lol but great movie.

for the voice of this character we'll be going for a dark, "rock" kinda voice. something that when you hear it on the phone your skin goes all wicked .

just a small message to keep the thread alive and let u know that this project is still running :). Quite some things are happening behind the scenes. We started some simple animation shots, characters are coming along nicely and the third scene for the trailer (of a total of four scenes) has entered into "production". that was the last scene that hadn't been worked on yet :). We should post some updates soon. thanks for checking, comments, crits etc. ;)

the project title has changed aswell from omiQron - The Black Goddess to omiQron - Restless Eternity :) so we should be asking the thread title to be changed I think hehe

I'd personally love to get my hands on a cloak thingie like what the Grim Reaper got. Or the Sith use... heh. Plus a pair of horns;).

with the first vampire character getting close to completion I started working on his face: rig, skin and lipsync. so here is a first try (still soem things to tweak for exemple the upper teeth row going through lips) of a maaaad vampire hehe :)

(teeth and tongue arent textured yet)

Impressive. The skin and the coat still don´t feel right (the leather looks more like polished wood) but the shirt is spot-on.

18th Sep 2006, 22:13
Thanks lennier1, appreciate the comments :)

more animation is on its way. I'm doing some wiring etc I finished the morph targets today and came up with a total of 10 expression morphs and 10 phonetics which should do the trick to get him talking :) (I hope) so now putting everything together in a interface to mix jaw, tongue mouth en face mouvements together in one small bundle :)

here is a small test of some lipsync (far from perfect :) ) I've been trying out with my voice (the guy says "Hail" for all the metal fans out here :p more to come :) )

Some impressive work you got there and I would be more then happy to have you working on this one :D. Right now we could use some more vehicules to cruise through the city. You can come up with your own concept or I can put somebody on the job aswell to design one.
A bit futuristic of course but not to much would be the only guideline :) the rest would be a freecard :)

The teeth... Not to make your job worse, but they should be enamelous. Kind of shiny and partially pearlescent. Just a thought...

Oh, and...

When I was doing animation for my school assignment - a Cortana simulation - I watched how my mouth moved in a mirror to get the right movement.

Because my God, this thing rocks now. A little tweaking, as you say...

The_Caveman
10th Oct 2006, 21:36
Thanks Aescapulius :) glad you like it. very true for the teeth (I forgot to mention that at the time of animating they weren't textured yet hehe my mistake). I'll keep on tweaking it :D

but to stay in the deadline I had to slow down a bit on the facial animation and model a bit so this is the work done during this weekend :) (wheels modelled by Gahn)

Time to show a small update in between the moving of scifi-meshes :D

first of all for the characters done by Sylvain (aka Lacrevette)
(there are more pictures but it would make the thread inbrowsable)

http://www.chezlacrevette.com/omicron/swatmemberwip5a.jpg
http://www.chezlacrevette.com/omicron/swatmemberwip6b.jpg

next to that we have been working on some transport.
the bus done by gahn (entered into texturing :) )
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/highview/images/BUs/wipText1.jpg
and a mercedes A class I did (again without wheels hate doing those)
http://caveman-digital.com/team_ftp/Jozef/private/Mercedes_A_09.jpg

a pen prop modelled by thebest (I like it a lot actually simple but effective :) )
http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/2793/penvi9.jpg

and last but not least :) 3Deffects handed over the files for the appartement so right now I'm turning it all into a big mess

so this is what I came up with with adding in the detail (do I love the Ikea catalog)
Computer screen, laptop, mouse, mousepad, scanner and start of the printer done by 3deffects, pencil and mug(isnt in the scene yet) by ronson2k dustbin by gahn.

Wow this is realy amazing, looking forward to seeing more animation.
Definatly one I'll be keeping my eye on.
One thing, I'd guse you probably have it sorted by now as it was post a while back, but in the latist animation of the vampire dude (or at least the moust recent posted here) his coat collar deforms when the jaw moves.
Just thaught I'd mention it and keep up the good work!

@Slimdim: Yup we sorted it (but I didnt rerender anything we're trying to make him talk for the first scene we hope to finish during this month) we reskinned the coat instead of using skinwrap :) its working better know. thanks for pointing it out though :)

@Tveakk: Must be your lucky day ;) I recieved a part of the industrial area and importing it to max at the moment should have some renders of it today or tomorrow and I'll post them here. I'll post some older images aswell :)

Thanks again for all those comments greatly appreciated and keep those comments and of course crits coming :D

The industrial area is taking a bit more time then expected so I wont have a render before tomorrow or tuesday sorry for that but I while have another building going with that update and in the meanwhile here is some more work done during the weekend.

the last one is a carpet (still needs a lot of tweaking especially for the white line going through it) as for the other renders the interior doesnt have a light setup yet so its all still kinda dark)

This is definitaly one of the best animation projects I have ever seen. I am really liking the story as well. Is this one of those evil corporation movies with the hundreds of enemy soldiers? Kudos man kudos. Also, when I saw the first lip syncing video, I had my brothers surround sound on and at about half volume (about as loud as a fire alarm) and it scared the hell out of me. CRAZY. I cant wait to see some scenes from the movie *drools*.

Impressive work.

Regarding the final2.mov The standup collar is imho way to strongly effected by the facial movements. It looks like the deformation of the face extends to the collar as well.

Ramiel
15th Nov 2006, 05:30
The project looks really good (modeling and texturing and I hope for you also animation;) )
Five stars for me:)
If I could suggest a quite simple but effective lighting for the office (without hijacking your thread), you could use simple spot lights with soft shadows, and a bright yellow-ish light from the outside (plus global illumination if it will fit with your idea).
Something like this (if you want to remove the image, just let me know;) )...

Thanks Shadowblade, yup you're right we're trying to play a bit more with subsurface scattering :)

looool liljon. That voice from the lipsync is mine lol never knew I could scare the hell out of people thats good to know :p

Thanks Tveakk, yup there is a story I didnt post it but I'll make a small resume of it and post it during the week (I hope just like the industrial area )

Thanks Auralis, For the coat what I did was using "skin morph" but I should have skinned it to make it look correct :) thats what we're doing now.

Thanks Ramiel for that tip I'll try that one out and post a render :) dont worry for the pic isnt a problem at all especially because it gives a good idea of what you were saying :)

well I'm off now have to get my drivers licence so everybody here that lives in France stay in hehe Caveman taking the wheels :p

The_Caveman
17th Nov 2006, 22:39
Thanks to everybody for the replies really appreciate them and keeps us going here :D (so keep them coming :p ;) ) really great to wake up and see all those comments :)

so I've been trying to do the lightsetup Ramiel proposed so here are two renders:

(there is one direct light with a bit of yellow color (could be a bit more I think) and 8 spotlights to light the whole room in the appartement

so the first one is just with final gather :
http://caveman-digital.com/team_ftp/Jozef/private/office18.jpg

the second one has GI included:
http://caveman-digital.com/team_ftp/Jozef/private/office19.jpg

everything rendered with mental ray :). I'm rather happy with the result but it could probably use some improvement so feel free to crit away...
Another question the scene is getting bigger and bigger now I know there is a possible to render in layers (render foreground then background objects) but I've been looking for a tuto on the how-to but didnt find anything so if somebody knows the "how-to" would be great to hear your ideas because well to make that carpet look nice it needs a small 100.000 hairs which kinda kills my computer with the rest of the objects in it :).

thanks for the help
cheers

Looking really AWSOME there. This has got to be my favourite thread here at SFM, theres such a broad range of 3d things.

Also, about the ACT, i have some free time now and can modify the mesh myself to save you guys time :) (and to work on my modeling skills). If you fire off a PM or something with what needs to be done i can get on it :D

Ramiel
18th Nov 2006, 00:14
It's really good, but (even if this will kill your PC:shiner: ) I will turn on the shadows of the spotlights (if they aren't on yet, because the desk looks like it's a little bit "floating"... If you know what I mean...)
Take care of this project, because it could be really interesting...;)

Tveakk
18th Nov 2006, 00:24
second render looks very refereshing, it seems to be noon, or is that how i see it :D
looks very nice, but somethig is missing, cannot get my finger on it.
however, really nice render.

22nd Nov 2006, 22:26
Thanks FarCry, I've send you an email and don't hesitate on posting that great ACT in this thread aswell it really deserves credits :D and it helps us out a looot :)

Thanks Ramiel, I had them turned on but I think the opacity of the shadow was a bit to low but because it takes me an hour to render and I can't even do full renders anymore I spent the weekend learning how to composite things together lool :p but you are absolutly right about the desk floating. I should have a new render pretty soon and hope to have ur ideas on it because even if we take care of the project without the rights crits we ain't going far :)

Thanks Tveakk. Yup its noon (well for now well two days ago it still was lol then I played with the light color and all hehe right now it could be sunrise or sunset)
Thanks for the comment :)

We're preparing some updates. Some new things that don't have anything to do with the Trailer but more with the series (in concept work) and some new characters and all. hope to post all of it during the comming days together with the industrial area.

why days don't have 48hours? would come in handy from time to time.... eventhough I have a drivers licence now still aint got enough time to do the things I always wanted

real person in cg clothes? nah - everything looks cg. I'd suggest toning down the spec relfection on the skin, adding some SSS and SDS, working with normals maps and then possibly making a specular map for the face.

The_Caveman
18th Dec 2006, 13:42
Thanks everybody for your comments again :)

@D4327: True true but there is already a sss skin shader applied aswell as a bump map, most of the details on the face are modelled so no real need for normal maps I think and there is also a specular map for the face. I'll ask Sylvain to post some views of the maps we applied on the journalist (thinks there is a total of 6 or something) and let you have a look at it and see what you would suggest to make it look even better (I'm already very very happy because when starting out with this project never ever would I have dreamed of such quality but if it can get even better then I'm willing to listen :D). But of course we'll take this into consideration and keep on playing with the renders till we get it better :D

Hello guys, here a little dynamic turn around test to see how it works like I want. I have to tweak the shape of the hat on the back etc.
I'm planning to use hair and fur to make his hair.
About 10 hours of rendering for 241 frames, about 3 minutes by frames.
I use mentalray and for sure sss skin shader ;)

I was wondering about the characters and the modelling/rigging used. Is the head detached as a separate object? Its just that in some rendering i notice it looks attached and in others detached...
Do you animate the torso and neck separately from the head whilst the head is simply linked to the torso?

Great work:thumb:

The_Caveman
19th Dec 2006, 22:22
Thanks you very much Drummer :) (good to see that there are more drummers around here :D devoted to the fine art of slammin the skins ;) )

The head isnt attached to the torso. there is a torso underneath when we start modelling but is deleted afterwards to just keep the head with the neck the clothes and a part of the arms with the hands to avoid enormous polycounts. then everything is rigged onto the same skeleton of bones but as seperated objects. but the neck reacts in the same way as the clothes its all linked together and should react together. to be sure of this some parts of the clothes have a skinwrap applied to it aswell.

I'll try and post a small image of the setup if needed?
hope it explained a bit because mine in general are rather bad lol

http://chezlacrevette.com/omicron/reporter/wip/journalist1.movwow I've only just seen the clip, this is excellent work, the SSS on the ears does seem to strong, but everything else seems excellent to me, the rest of the skin looks amazing, and your clothing shaders are really nice looking too, although the shadows on the coat do seem a little crisp, maybe that would look different with an area light

hey! wonderful stuff happening here mate, those characters blew me away! i dunno if it's been stated, but what program are you using?

Tovette
22nd Dec 2006, 23:42
That character spin was AWESOME. It looks great. I do agree that the SSS of the ears is a bit too much. I also noticed that when you see the character in profile the upper bridge of his nose has SSS and realistically there wouldn't be any there because of the bone on the skull. There should be a hint of some further down on the edge of the nose where the cartilage and flesh is though. Love the skin texture too. frick that was rad.

Thanks everybody once more :D always a pleasure coming walking in here and discover the new posts greatly appreciated.

@Drummer: pictures are coming :D taking a bit longer then expected but there are some changes (see post further down :) )

Thanks IRML (I love it when a plan comes together ;) ) and Tovette :) we have been working on the SSS to reduce it and improve it images should come soon :)

thanks PiperTheGreat: the characters are modelled and textured with 3ds max :) the rest is mainly 3ds max aswell except for the architecture which has been done in SketchUp and then merged to 3ds max :)

Like I said a little above right now I'm kinda restructering the whole project. Get things rolling smoothly. Some changes in plans but this should only make the progress better hehe (I hope ;) ) should take to new year and then I hope to bring a bigger update with a bit more explanations on what is going on hehe :D

thanks again for all the posts

here is a new small update. the reporter with some hair, and some small details we have put into this guy :)

http://chezlacrevette.com/omicron/reporter_lordvampire/reporter.jpg
http://chezlacrevette.com/omicron/reporter_lordvampire/reporter2.jpg

btw the tutorial on the bus should be coming in one of these days :D

and now some more text hehe :D.
Like I said the post above we're undergoing some changes in the project :). nothing bad though but we needed some serious restructuring :).
So what is going on:

I reworked the story script and then talked with a friend of mine and we reworked the story even more this had to be done because a couple of weeks ago we decided to not make a film anymore but make a series of short episodes which would be more achievable as a goal with some resultats sooner then with a movie (the movie we would be working still a lot of years before even thinking of realising it :) ) so this would mean rewriting the story so that it can be divided into episodes this is what we were aiming for but in the end we ended up adding, changing even more things then expected :).
When last friday we were talking with the same friends around a good old guiness we decided to drop the trailer for a big part and only work on the one scene that is furthest for now and from then on really work on the episodes. Everything we did would have been used in the movie so nothing is lost :D

this has lead us to working on a couple of scripts for the first episodes which are being reworked at the moment then will be turned into storyboards and from there we'll restart modelling (in the meanwhile we'll keep on working on the scene from the trailer which is finally becoming a teaser :p)

This has made us change quite some things but all to make it even better, better organised, a great team and lots of fun hehe :D

so as soon as we have more to show Scifi-meshes will be the first one informed :D

Happy Christmas even a day after hehe

And here goes with another update :).

Like said a couple of pages back there was a request for a small tutorial on the bus texture:

Well Steve Cowling who modelled this one has written one and he has just send it over to me and here it is : Tutorial Texture blending (http://caveman-digital.com/tutorials/Blending%20Textures%20Tutorial.pdf)

A big thanks to Steve and comments, crits and questions dont hesitate ;)

Well on behalf of the team and myself I wish you all a very happy new year, those who check out the thread regulary and well all those who come by all the best. Scifi-meshes has been one of the forums where the users believe in what we do and support us through the whole process during the last year it has been great to check in here and see the comments aswell as all the other work that is being done on these forums. So thank you very much :)

and we hope 2007 will be a great year for the project . At the moment we're restructering everything make it even more solid after a year of work so we hope to have some updates during the coming weeks

@Ramiel well the silos have been textured but its more the rest of the industrial area that needs the same kind of texturing job as the silos :) old and wrecked and torn a part :) (I posted a uvw to give you an idea :) )

Well something completly different this time hehe :) to avoid copyright problems, with the story and with the team I recently created a small "company" called Caveman Digital to get all the legal issues dealed with. And we're *bump*ing the thread back up again. I didn't got word from you Caveman so I just got on with it...

It's supposed to be a heavy freight engine, probably with containers between the front and end car. I'll sketch it out for you guys what I'm planning to do with it soon, but if it's possible I'd like more info from you guys :)

The_Caveman
20th Feb 2007, 12:26
Hey,

yup sorry my mistake. I answered in the thread but forgot to send you some more info after that but seems like i did the right thing because its turning out really nice :D.

Here is some more info on the transportation system as it looks like right now:

Because the project is set in a near future there will still be "normal" transportation. cars with wheels. but next to that above all the roads will be a maglev system.
One track for public transport (the one that is being build right now) and one track for cargo (like u just drew)
and finally tracks for the personal vehicules. The personal vehicules that can do maglev can do road aswell but not all the road vehicles can go maglev.

I think this car:
the audi RSQ
http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-2004/2004-Audi-RSQ-Concept-RA-1280x960.jpg

would be a nice source of inspiration to get the idea I had in mind?
let me know if you need more info ^^

Allrighty, I'll work the cargo train out a bit more, but in the meantime I have a civy car too. It might not be a surprise that it borrows some elements of the Audi... *shrugs*

The idea itself isn't actually new, I've got a few other Fulgura's on display here (http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/2d-wips/1572-borgmans-concept-alcove-not-faint-heart.html), but the next one is a bit addapted to omiQron itself. BorgMan
22nd Feb 2007, 10:17
Sure, no problem! Tho I want to point out that the top/side view is the same car as, for example, the one in the Dakar scene. And I take it you want to use the train on a maglev track? Question questions questions :D

And, as promised ;)

The_Caveman
22nd Feb 2007, 18:20
I like the idea of the twisting wheels nice one but I think we might take it a step further for the wheels :) we were going for the idea to make it suspend like the train does so maybe make the wheels slide out and go up towards the maglev track?

but I like the concept a lot so if you could maybe invent something for the wheels then it would be ready to go into 3D?

yups the train would be nice to have it on maglev aswell, that possible?

cheers
jozef

BorgMan
23rd Feb 2007, 00:34
The normal vehicles use the same overhead maglev system? If so... That's going to be tough. Next from the technical matter it isn't so practical either. I take it you've seen Immortals? Their system (hovercars that get their power from an overhead wire) looks fancy and all but it isn't very practical, but in translating that principle to a maglev system is more difficult: a car needs two connection points in order to be able to hang down from a maglev track. Incorporating that into, say, a truck or a bus isn't so hard; I can do that while still retaining a sense of "flow". For a car that's a lot more difficult, but if that's what you want I can figure something out :)

[EDIT] I was thinking in the wrong direction I think: Minority Report's cars didn't fall down from the maglev track either when the road took a 90 degrees turn down. Give me some time to figure this one out; I'll probably come up with a hybrid track that can support both train traffic and road traffic...

BorgMan
24th Feb 2007, 07:59
And as promised the updated cargo train. Now with interior :D

The_Caveman
24th Feb 2007, 09:24
I like it!!! :D

very nice. fits exactly into the style of the whole project. Really nice work. its a bit "today" like with the container and the forms but also futuristic with it integrated into the train and suspended. Really nice.

For the cars its true that it will look a bit weird and all but normally if for exemple you build something into the roof (not sure its possible in real life but it'll be in the project :P because its Sci-fi) then it might work aswell? or the magnets on the wheels may have such "power" that it doesnt need to go up but just slide out a little of the car to make a clean field? just some ideas...

Your account has been actived BorgMan welcome on board ;)

I took your drawing and did a small block in animation to see what it would look like (its still looking a bit crappy because of the lack of detail and such but ohwell I think it can look pretty damn good)

so here is what I came up with:

http://caveman-digital.com/team_ftp/Jozef/private/audi_maglev.mov

I need to make it slide toward the top to make it go above the roof and get close to the maglev track. Anyways I'd say idea adopted and lets take it to the next stage ^^ = detailing

and an interior shot...

and some more work on the maglev system....
This time the bus (needs the wheels to get turned)

I think this might work aswell, it would be less expensive in an econimical perspective.... it would just ask a change of the suspension system instead of cutting out sides of the car and adding other mechanism then those in place?

so here my start on the detailing of the system:

Nice to hear news.
Just a niptick about the old interface: is a bit indistinct green fonts over gray background. ;) Can I suggest yellow, white or light green fonts?

Thanks Starship for your comments and thanks for the suggestion which will of course be applied. I'm already working on a V2 of the website to take out the different bugs in it :)

Time to drop off some images again :)

Were into storyboarding right now. First scenes are slowly but surely dripping in :)

Don't forget about us, we didnt abandonned the project hehe, a lot of things are going on behind stage and some true plans are being made (like always, how many times did I say that sentence? :p) anyways we're still working hard, the core team is still solid and working trying to make the best of it :)

I should have some more detailed updates rather soon but just to thank scifieric and Ramiel for their reply's and letting you know we're still alive ^^

It´s always nice to be proven once again why omiQron is one of the most respected projects around here. Congratulations on everything you´ve achieved already. Definitely looking forward to seeing more of your work.

I know this project has already been headered, but I want to header it again
I'm absolutely blown away by the architecture!

The_Caveman
18th Jul 2007, 22:56
looool would be awsome ^^

anyways if at scifi-meshes would be willing to maybe write an article together with the team about the project we would be more then willing :) (I don't mean like wow look at us how good we are and that kind of stuff but I think there are probably more guys (and probably girls aswell) wanting to do the same kind of things if we can help them with that by writing a small article or have a small interview or something count us in. once again I dont want to sound like "wow look at us we're the best" we're learning a lot in the process and would just like to share it :) )

So just throwing an idea like that into the scifi-meshes community

Thanks for the post Backstept greatly appreciated like always :thumb:
