After two long years of development, here is the final (???) design for the latest in Starfleet design, the Battlestar-Class Starship U.S.S. Galactica NCC- 75075. Keep an eye on the WIP thread for updates on the Bridge/CIC design, Master Systems Display, and more.:)http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/2d-wips/42-u-s-s-galactica-battlestar-class.html

Final version of the USS Galactica schematic or not, you have done one fine Job with designing the schematic of this beauty. :thumb:
Question I'm assuming the CIC/Bridge is built inside the starship hull instead of on top of the saucer like what is seen on most Federation starships?

Correct, and its 3 decks high (at least for right now).

I kinda figured that you built the Bridge/CIC within the saucer of the U.S.S. Galactica. Thats actually a good idea that your building the bridge like that and it will give better protection from weapons fire. This should be a standard for all future Federation starships.

I think the same way because when I saw Wrath of Khan, I though Kirk will shoot the bridge but missed and hit the navigation dome. Every logical beign would try to hit the 'brain' of a ship and tht's just the brigde.
(Talkin' 'bout logic, I think the Vulcans don't have their bridges at the top but somewhere deeper inside the vessel, right?)
But Roddenberry had made it a clear must that the bridge is at the very top of the vessel.

Jonny, How many Battlestar class starships are going to be commissioned.
Do you have the names and the registry numbers of the other Battlestar starships?

I like the bridge in the traditional spot, but a separate CIC does make a whole lot of sense too

I will be posting the design history and a list of ships and registry numbers soon. Its still in progress. The updated (but incomplete) MSD will probably up soon too. Until then...

I don't see the point of having two shuttle bays at the stern unless what are the flightpods on the standard Galactica design are actually something else on this ship.
Are the two horizontal blue lines in the nose seen in the bow view supposed to be the navigational deflector emitters?

I can't speak for Jonny, From my understanding of this design, there are two Deflector dishes on the Saucer.
As for the Shuttle bays in the back, he probably wanted to separate the shuttle bay from the Pods. The Pods would store the Fighters and the Shuttle bay would support shuttles and other support craft.

Interesting concept. Nice Job!! :thumb:
Boy she is going to be a big vessel! Those shuttle bays should be able to carry a small starship..almost.., let alone shuttles. I am not much of a fan of the new BSG, but the blend works.
Do you plan on designing fighters?
Will the pods retract as in BSG?

When Jonny designed the USS Galactica, it was designed as a Commandship/Mobile base dock to repair starships as big as the Intrepid Class.
Jonny still has plans in the works in designing Federation style Viper Fighter based off the Delta Flyer/BSG Viper and a Shuttle craft and possibly a Marine Assault shuttle based off the New BSG Raptor.

Hmm.... I read through an most of the excerpts of an old thread of more than two years. I've read most of the history and reviewed his design types. It seems that this is Part II of that thread and I am very late to it.
Though I am not a fan of the new BSG, I would like to believe that the Federation would maintain its Ship-of-the-line fleet of powerful and versatile exploration type vessels and that this awesome Battlestar would be fore front of conflict, not peace.
I think Jonny has blended the two disparate groups very well, and should keep on the good work and imagination he started for all his fandom. As for me, I will bow out.

One nitpick: the formation lights are reversed. It should be green on starboard & red on port. Otherwise, it's a great design!

The Voyager, the Equinox, and the Rhode Island have two Deflector Dishes. And the port and starboard pods aren't just for fighters (well....they shouldn't). They can also be for freighters (Raven-type ships), cargo ships, and passenger ships (and those pods needs to be equipped with forcefields at each end.
