The critique: The face seems a bit flat and his hairline is off from the perspective you gave him. Also his right eye (our left) is a wee high. Since our brains are literally hardwired to notice flaws in someone's face, those tend to stick out more.

Now that's out of the way, good image over all. Not too many people even bother with a background, much less the detail you've added. The shadows look good and the light source seems consistent.

I think his hair on the right hand side is what's throwing it off most. Other than that, it's a good enough likeness that you can tell it's supposed to be Kirk.
