View Full Version : 3D All My Wip's...

Starship
4th Sep 2006, 01:34
Since I have a lot of wip's going together and all of them will take some time to finish, I believe that's a good option to reunite all of them in just one thread. As lennier does...:)
Other thing that makes me to take this decision, is the fact that I have just a small free time to play with 3d. By this way, I'll have just one thread to update, and you won't see so many outdated threads from me. ;)
Let me stop to write for now. Here it goes ALL OF MY WIP'S.... :D

thumbnail that appears in the thread:

Isn't that a ship from Armada?

Yes, she is. But the mesh that I got isn't a low poly... :)

before the crash, SFM has a Buck Rogers' mesh area. There, I had hosted two of my conversions: The starfighter (original by Crimsonline) and the Draconian Marauder (original by H. Gibbens). I could upload the conversions again, in a new BR's section. :D Thinking about it, I present you the BR's banner.
Hey Aceman, would you make the BR's download area available again ?

The BR section is there. Pic removed

Whoa you got a lot on your plate there Starship. Nice work on the searcher. CL`s starfighter was some fine work too. Are you gonna texture it? If I remember correctly he wasn`t comfortable with texture in Blender and decided to leave it as a base material.

I like the Premonition on the first page very much. Cant wait to see some work on that... Nice work to everyone else too. There are some fine meshes there...:thumb:

Hi friends! Thanks for the kind words.

I´ve been busy at work...:( and I have a little girl, 03 years old, claiming for my attention too. So, still, working slowlly with 3DS Max.:p

Darth Malice - The starfighter received the original insignia and color stripes over the catamarans. Over the body´s mesh, just max colors. I belive that is pretty cool, you´ll see. ;)

Dr. Timelord - I made some changes over the secondary hull. I got two lightwave versions too, which I used as a reference. Hopefully you´ll show you some progress next weekend.

The model is excellent! As you can see, just the insets are missing. Therefore, I'll need some time to manually correct them. I was toying about to texture the interior when finished with the exterior. This will be a hard mission, no doubt. :) What are you planning to change in the interior ?

I can see those nose problems again lol, but i had to rebuilt it about two or three times until i beat them out. I'm pretty sure the prog you're using wil have better smoothing and curving options than blender, might whan to try out different way,

If not, you have my permission to cut and shape, to try and fit it better.

General Statement.

Towards the end, some things on the Ent-B were rushed, so i'll be able to go back in and re do them. ( like the shuttlebay)

Most of it is Texture work. I'm not sayin i'm unhappy with what i put out there. Cos Starship is making an awesome conversion of this mesh.

Update time for the Enterprise-B;) There are still a lot to do...

The updates:
- new neck
- neck connection with the saucer. I found a good way to do the identation.
- the small red rectangles over the saucer
- naceles' front (the blue bussards)
- impulse engines
- the "old" impulse engine (blue one)
- deflector
- temp texture over the impulse engines
- some missing pollys manually replaced.

Hope that you like. ;)

You'll notice that the ship name and registry is missing from the rear of the nacelles, think you might be able to help out with that?

Thanks for the kind words, but don´t shoot yourself on the floor! The mesh IS your creation. I´m just putting some details here and there and changing what was corrupted by conversion process.;)
About news, I don´t have nothing so good to show. I worked on smoothing errors over the secondary hull, welded some verts, changed a bit the blue bussards, added some missing pollys, details and did some texture tests.

Almost one month without news is a long time....
So, let's go ! Now we have improved naceles. Needs to be smoothed a bit yet, and to correct some scale troubles at the backside, but I think it's not that bad. ;) Forget the textures over them, cause they are just temporary.

The saucer finally got some windows too. :)

The best, and maybe the fun things are:
- the learning exercise in correcting geometry errors originated by the conversion process
- adding details that wasn't there before, without to ruin the mesh. :D:D

Still got a long way to go, especially with the textures and mapping. Your lighting rig, also, doesn't to the ship any favors- it's very flat, bright and, in some ways, a bit misleading. I'd suggest making your WIP lighting rigs a bit more dynamic so that, when you look at it from different angles, you'll be able to get a better feel for what is and isn't missing.

But, all in all, it's looking pretty good. I'm especially interested in that Mammoth Class Runabout- that looks pretty damned nice!

Yup. Douglas Trumbull came up with that system for TMP based off the tail-fin floodlights used on airplanes. It answered the question; what lights the ship in deep space. Answer; itself. :flippy:

I never did like the film version of the Enterprise-B, with those "extra features" they added (these were just to make the model look different to the original NCC-2000 Excelsior, and the deflector wings were so they didn't have to make holes in the old model for the Nexus damage), but anyway, looking over the work you've been doing on the conversion, it looks pretty great!!! :D

Admittedly, I did try myself to try and convert the B into max, but when I saw the muddled mesh, I thought I'd best leave it be...

I was trying to cut the windows in the sec hull but... dude, I got a lot of errors. After to fight with them for sometime, without success, I saw that I was in troubles... :shiner: :shiner:
So I tryed to make a new one, but I discovered that wasn't so easy to make the wave in the right shape... :shiner:

After to many times redoing the dammed thing, finally found a way to do it by the right way. :D :D The hull itself is a half sphere with a boolean, and the wave was made with spilines. A dammed painfull (but good) way to learn how to use it. So, I present you my sec hull and wave...

About the conform, I already tryed it. Isn't a 100% secure. Sometimes you'll got weird errors. Until now, it didn't occurred with the glue plugin. Don't worry about portabillity, you don't need to have the plugin instaled in your machine to use my mesh. ;)

Yeah, that looks more like a shadow to me from a light coming from the right hand side. Either way, this looks great. The windows were worth the pain. In terms of crits, the only think I can think of is that the textures on the 'lip' of the saucer stretch a little. That sort of thing bothers perfectionists. I'd be a perfectionist, but I'd consider myself lucky to get any panelling at all, so I couldn't give a monkeys about it. I'm just trying to contribute something other than my own drool. ;)
