After seeing all the fun stuff that has been created due to the new challenge i decided that i would give this a go my self as i have never done these before.... Always a first for most everything.....
I too have gone with a pyramid just like :K.I.S:....... his kinda inspired me...
I also took the open idea from the Japanese pyramid city design.
Here is what i have come up with so far.
Dallidas
9th Dec 2008, 04:15
It could be some sort of relay station with the little triangle being a power supply. Or perhaps some sort of religious temple.
fluxfire
9th Dec 2008, 04:21
Hahahahah......... but you are correct on the little pyramids in the center with the sphere in between them that is gonna be a power source of sorts as for the rest of it i am gonna continue to make more to the structure to not only increase its over all support but to give it that livable feeling.....
EDIT.......
Here is a quick update to the model i will do more to it later.

Well after not liking where the other design went i decided to change it up a bit and it think this version works much better then the last one.
Here are some images of the work so far.
Thoughts?????? Ideas
EDIT: one quick render shot.

Cool overall design! Very flowing and artistic, yet it retains the pyramid shape.
fluxfire
12th Dec 2008, 14:49
Exactly thats what i am trying to go for the problem i have is where to go with it from here what would look good but still be interesting......
Dallidas
12th Dec 2008, 15:08
There seems to be a lot of wasted space on the sides especailly. I'd add some more living spaces
Ozylot
12th Dec 2008, 15:28
Very interesting!
As dallidas mentioned, you could add some stuff to the sides and bottom. Perhaps have some things that cris-cross between the sides, more suspended parts, maybe some windows too.
fluxfire
12th Dec 2008, 15:48
Hahahaha funny yall should mention those i just came up with an idea for them and finished them just before reading yall's posts.....
Here is what i have added to the side rails and i have also done a render of this bad boy i think its a wicked render if i do say so my slef..... ( and i do :flippy: )
Windows huh well i supose in the pillars thems selfs i could set them up as a living space.........
fluxfire
13th Dec 2008, 03:00
Ok here is what it looks like with the windows put in the pillars.......... thoughts????
Melak
13th Dec 2008, 14:15
I still tihnk this looks like a space prison :)
nice work :)
dredd2000
13th Dec 2008, 14:44
Yeep, space prison to me also.
Maybe you should think of this idea - can be really nice! And add more guns - so no prisoner could escape. As ancient philosopher Clarksonius has said "In prison no one can hear you scream" :)
Tinukedaya
13th Dec 2008, 14:56
I'd loose the red spirals. don't like that at all.
as for the windows... somehow I thought this would be bigger... chm..
fluxfire
13th Dec 2008, 15:50
I'd loose the red spirals. don't like that at all.
as for the windows... somehow I thought this would be bigger... chm..
Bigger you mean as in more windows?......... As for the spirals it was an astetic choice kinda the artsy look..o.O
Space prison heheheh possibly but i would have to redo a few things for that look to be a final one...... hum..........
And Tinukedaya what did you have in mind as a different idea for size? and for the detailing of the pillars instead of the spirals??????
Tinukedaya
13th Dec 2008, 17:08
Well I thought it's kinda huge, but that would mean a lot more smaller windows. Your windows are tuning the scale down.
And well Instead of the spirals, maybe just straight tubes as elevator shafts or something. also breaking the pillars with some kind of protrusions, or you have the windows in sections, why don't recess the pillars between those sections? just something to break the lines. Hope you understand what 'm babling here... hehe
fluxfire
13th Dec 2008, 19:50
Actually i do understand the babbling :D Hum more windows would give it a larger sense of scale and i do like the idea of it being massive....... hum strait tubes hum...... not really sure how that would look i will have to give a try and see if i like it...... as for sectioning it out yeah that is a good idea i will have to do that as well.....
Thanks for the feed back Tinukedaya......
fluxfire
15th Dec 2008, 08:28
Alright so here is the revised version with your suggestions (Tinukedaya) i think this will give it a more grand scale specially once i start putting all the little windows over all those buildings and i plan to do that to every pillar section O.o oih thats alot of detailing........ never done any thing like this before should be interesting.....
Oh and i think i shall go with the prison motieff..... i have some interesting ideas for gaurd lasers for defense and escapee's....
fluxfire
15th Dec 2008, 09:29
One quick update before i call it a night..... here is some of the windows done... the larger ones are mess area and recreation areas the smaller ones are the larger cell areas....
THOUGHTS??????
fluxfire
16th Dec 2008, 02:57
update
Dallidas
16th Dec 2008, 03:04
maybe make some rings on the inside attached to the pillars?
fluxfire
16th Dec 2008, 03:57
that thought has crossed my mind i just haven't gotten that far yet...... still need to figure out ideas for the inside of the pillars.... any thoughts on that???
fluxfire
16th Dec 2008, 05:23
Here is what the weps look like on it
fluxfire
16th Dec 2008, 21:26
I decided to change up how the panneling went and the window setup...... what do yall think?
Tinukedaya
16th Dec 2008, 22:22
Hmm. well, I like the cylindrical stuff on outside of the pillars and I like the green(blue) "separators" between the sections. But I do not like the section detailing.. .It's too messy. Personally I would leave the sections filled only with windows, not sectioning it further into this small things you got there..
Oh and I do like the weaps.
fluxfire
17th Dec 2008, 00:07
Hummm well interesting approch...... will have to give it a try....
fluxfire
17th Dec 2008, 05:41
And Tinuk you talking like this then???
Tinukedaya
17th Dec 2008, 09:55
THAT is indeed what I thought. I like it.
fluxfire
17th Dec 2008, 20:52
Hum so time to make some sorta claps for the smaller rings so that it looks attached then i need to figure out some sort of things to put on the front and back of the pillars and on the top pyramid hum.........
CrimsonLine
17th Dec 2008, 21:25
Wow! And just like that, the sense of scale on this thing is immensely improved. Great job!

17th Dec 2008, 23:27
I like the last design elements, looks more livable.

You talking when i raised out the hull it's self and added the windows on them raised sections?

18th Dec 2008, 01:46
Cool design. For the negative space in the center, I'm visualizing a vertical power beam between the square base structure and going into the top pyramid.

Cool design. For the negative space in the center, I'm visualizing a vertical power beam between the square base structure and going into the top pyramid.
Actually that is what the center blue ball is for with the pyramids on top and bottom as the focusing points i am not sure how to do the lighting type of power going from them to the center tower to the top of the pyramid......... :help: maybe??????
Dallidas
18th Dec 2008, 04:40
lookin much better!
fluxfire
18th Dec 2008, 06:36
Thanks....
Here is what i have started for the landing bay area's of the station... I decided on a limited number of stalls.... there is one on the opposite side as well just can't see it in these renders....
I still have a bit of work to do like adding in a force-field ring round the outter part as well as emergancy doors to close incase the field fails......( wouldn't want ppl sucked out into space  )..... oh yeah there is a top and bottom section to the stalls to provide more space for not only docking and take off but to make repairs as well....
fluxfire
18th Dec 2008, 19:02
Here is the quick little addition i didn't get to post last night due to my net being down.....
just added an outer face the and field emitters..... less some one has a better idea of how to do that??????
fluxfire
19th Dec 2008, 23:26

Why thank you for compairing my work to a master peace of real life design...
Well i managed to get some work done while i was gone and since i have been home today i have been doing lots of work on my model. So i have alot of picks to post.......
fluxfire
23rd Dec 2008, 03:07
As you can see in the last pics i did some doors for the small bays and added in large ship docking on both sides....
Here are some more pics.... In these i have redone the center power transfer and added in a distrobution ring...
I also added in Deck rings from more movement between sections.... as well as added weapons just for these sections...
fluxfire
23rd Dec 2008, 03:11
I just love the way the ring weps look in the dark :D
I have also given each section of the pillars a different empire symbol. the one at the top is all the same as they would be the builds of the station :p
And yes you are seeing an Erkan Symbol (updated of course)....... :D
Ozylot
23rd Dec 2008, 03:27
Very interesting. You seem to be having fun with this now ;)
A better lighting rig would really bring this alive IMO.
fluxfire
23rd Dec 2008, 03:57
@Ozylot
Light ahhhhh i am only using one light in the renders....... i would set up proper lighting if i had an idea of what kind and how many :p
As for fun ummmm yeah a little.....maybe......

Perhaps look up how to use Global illumination, or Ambient Occlusion. Even adding a soft area light from a different angle might help. Every app is different in that regard though.

Ok do you mean like this first one or the second one?
fluxfire
23rd Dec 2008, 20:01
Here's a quick little update.... added in the supporting struts for the shafts...... actually they are more like braces that are sunk into the main pillars...o.O
I think i am almost done as well just need to add some details to the top of the pyramid and i think i will call it good less any one has any ideas....?
fluxfire
23rd Dec 2008, 23:44
Ok added in some more details on the bottom there and added in sorta docking ports for medium sized ships but mostly for cargo haulers to pick up and drop off.....
Not too sure if i am gonna keep this top peace like this or not..... tell me what you think....

hahahah The top section kinda does remind me of that too.... maybe its just the color choice......
Does any one think its missing any thing???? I am kinda out of ideas of what else to add....
<:K.I.S:>

A giant sar at the top

Looks more like an alien power source... I really like your concept - nice work.
fluxfire
24th Dec 2008, 23:27
@:K.I.S:
hahaha Nooooo......... :p
@dredd2000
In some ways that kinda is the back up power source if not the main area for an alien enviroment and thats just how it looks.....????? maybe...
<:K.I.S:>
25th Dec 2008, 05:45
i still think my idea i the best:devil::devil::devil:

Can any one that uses LW tell me how to do a right proper light setup so that the parts that glow actually look like they are glowing and so that its light up but not so light up that its overwelming......???
Oh yeah i also added a gradient and a bit of turbulance to give the upper section some more detailing.....
fluxfire
29th Dec 2008, 04:49
One more update right quick here just had to change up the top section a bit..... just didn't look right with support struts instead of a covering......
CrimsonLine
29th Dec 2008, 20:24
Definitely an improvement. I'd still advise a heap of detail work to be done on the gray areas of that top section, though. I'm sure that's what you're planning, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Ummmmmm........ actually i wasn't...... O.o....... but if you have some suggestions i am all ears :D

30th Dec 2008, 01:39
I suppose you could detail it in the texturing phase, but I don't know anything about that. I don't know - maybe cutting some greeble-sections into it, or adding some parts onto it. What does that section do? Why is it that shape? Use the reasons to drive your detailing.

Maybe it's just the holiday spirit in me, but it looks like a Christmas Tree!
Right on. With all the windows lit up red and green.
The scale makes the energy stuff in the center that much more impressive. Would be cool to see a bunch of ships swarming around that thing like moths at a light bulb
Tinukedaya
30th Dec 2008, 10:01
Somehow the symbols on the sides look out of place... might be because they are clearly overlapping the windows there. That's just a minor nitpick though.
fluxfire
31st Dec 2008, 05:18
@RewiredMonkey
Yeah i was going for a large scale but i am not sure as to how large.....
@Tinukedaya
actually the windows were removed in the sections where i put the symbols but i left certain ones in there to offset the symbols taking up so much room....
They shouldn't look as out of place once i start putting in pannels.....
@CrimsonLine
Yeah i was planning on doing some random greebles and panneling...... as for what it does its the main docking area and command structure........ the green section is the secondary power and the main docking and repair area........ i suppose i could put in some more tractor beam emitters and maybe a sensor grid of some kind as well as some random smaller airlocks higher up for like personal shuttles.........
fluxfire
2nd Jan 2009, 20:25
Ok opinions........ Think its worth continuing this style of hull plating or detailing..... i would be more detailed on these parts but i don't have the time to get it done before sat......
Edit here it is with all the pillars done........ and the top part of the base there.....

It's looking good indeed... What you might wanna try is to put simple plane beneath it. It'll receive it's shadows and that might help with the resulting pic...

Tinukedaya
4th Jan 2009, 07:49
That is indeed what I meant. You might just want to try to make the plane bigger, so it catches all the shadows. Even make it that big, that you can't catch the edges in your view...

Your final entry shall be 800x600 (or 600x800) resolution and only ONE pic. You might want to edit your final submission post. Also credits on the final pic might be a good idea.
