Finally finished with finals, and get a chance to work on something fun. A week late but oh well. :p
Running idea is a very old ship. I'm going to try to make it very warn and torn while still being rather ominous looking. Did a quick sketch of the basic layout, but there will be quite a bit more detail in the finished piece. Mainly some very nice core greebling.
Comments and Criticisms welcome as always. :thumb:

Small update. Not a lot done, but basic shape is getting there. Other things getting in the way, so this Challenge might be the one that gets away.... :( We'll see though. I haven't given up yet. :thumb:

Thanks guys!
Managed to get some more done today. Most of the modeling for the bottom "deck" is finished. You can start to get an idea of the scale I'm going for. A lot of inspiration comes from the novel Ring by Stephen Baxter. Very good book if you're into hardcore Scifi.
Going to try to knock out the upper two decks tomorrow, hopefully all of the connecting elevator shafts, and possibly the framework for all of the "glass" hull.

Up to just over 260K polys right now. most of that being on the floor of the deck. Terrain and water eat geometry like crazy.
I rendered out a video testing the water shader I may post later. I uploaded a fairly crappy version to Youtube here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAHJQLgT96g) though.

Throw down some basic shader color to make it easier to see the details if you would be so kind.

update. Finished most of the modeling for the deck interiors.
I'll change the shaders once I actually start texture work. I might show what I already have done in the next update. Since the water and ground already have their textures in place.
Size? Not really sure. Lets say the bridge is a two lane highway wide. Whatever that works out to be.

Thanks guys!
Small update. A shot from before the holiday festivities with the few textures I've done so far in place, and a shot from about an hour ago with a little more greeble work done. :D

I'm not sure if I'll keep the red lights at the back. I like the color, but not sure how it will look in the final piece. Just have to see how it goes. Opinions welcome.

Nice modelling. And I like concept - maybe because it's partly similar to my design - I mean that terrain inside, partly because of that impressive hull. Good work, keep it up!

well... I think I'll call it finished at least for this leg of the race. :p
Really didn't get to put in the same level of time and attention to this contest as I did the last, and I think it suffered for it.
Anyway. When the submission thread pops up I'll post the smaller version there, large one here for those that are interested.

In the spirit of the competition: Some new things I tried.
First I've tried to build a water shader. You really don't get to see much of it in this project, but I only built it because of this, so in a way it counts. lol.
First time using the Fire atmospheric effect. You can't really see it in this shot, but the idea I have for 10 will show it off a bit better.
:thumb:Good luck everyone!

Well. I do not see any suffering from not enough time. :D It's great one

Well that looks very, very nice. Good idea. Still I would light it up a little bit - so we could see the model in all its beauty. Anyway, waiting to see your ideas for ch#10
