View Full Version : Challenge #9- Dallidas- Personal Spacecraft
Dallidas

Here's my go at this challenge! A personal spacecraft that can hold 3 people(maybe) and is good for short trips (into orbit and moon distances). The shape is a stretched out egg. Its supposed to be more comical in design so I hope i achieved that.
I have yet to add landing gear or antigrav devices, Im not sure which I'll do.
Anyway here it is.

I like the panels in the concept a little better. Nice start though!

I attempted to do those, but all the slicing led to a big mess and ugly smoothing. And due to my lack of stopping, i never saved a base copy of the mesh:(

ouch i hate it when i don't save a base copy makes it hard to fix some things... but i like the engine :D

Thats a sweet model, is there a sports version?
Crimsonlines quoting Mork from the planet Ork, from Mork and Mindy, they had egg shaped ships, blast from the past.........oh Shazbot........ 80's I think, can't really remember it much

Ah, I'm a 90's kid
Sport version? There is a compact version!
Interesting looking engine back there!
I got the Mork & Mindy reference, but honestly, the first thing I thought of was Danger Mouse's spaceship!

Paint it yellow, give it the DM logo and I so want one...........DANGER MOUSE RULES :D :thumb:
I like the engine, hell I think the whole thing is good
does the compact give good lightyears to the gallon ?

Do you have a picture of the dangermouse ship? I cant find it with google

I found 2, one rear shot and one side shot, though the ship is in the image, its really just for show
And for your amusement:D

Hmmm, looking eggcelent!
Dallidas
15th Dec 2008, 02:33
oh, god lets not start with the egg puns...
No updates over the weekend, lots of RL stuff got in the way, mainly, uhh...large gatherings with spontaneous dancing and vomiting...
but that picture did give me an idea for landing gear!
Dallidas

So I started adding the landing gear and I've run into a spot of trouble.
I cant move the object along the same normal lines as it is when I'm in edit mode. Thus making animation either really hard or impossible (to my knowledge) because IPO keys are parented to the object data, not the mesh data.
Does anyone have a solution?
Picture 1 is in object mode, 2 is in edit mode

I have no clue, sorry.
Dallidas

not to worry, I tried something different!
But it would still be nice to know how to do that!

I have no clue how blender works. In Max you can select the normal's source from a drop down menu. Mabye there is something similar in blender?
Dallidas
18th Dec 2008, 04:29
I dont believe so. If I could align an empty (just arrows used for animating) to a face normal i could do it, but i dont believe I can do that, accurately at least.
But i added some pop out landing pads and some deceleration jets.
Let me know what you think!:)
Currently at 32000 faces

Very slick! I would love to see your materials settings.
Dallidas

thanks guys!
I attached the material and world settings for ya Denes. Its just a red material with raytraced reflections.
I also have a plain black picture in the backbuff, so that the cloud image(for reflections) doesnt show up. I can send you the blend file if you'd like.

Kewl! I'd love to see the .blend file, yes! I'll shoot you a PM.

added the front landing gear!
Does anyone know how to apply a single material to everything in a scene? I want to do a wire/clay render but i dont wanna change all materials.

Shiny! Nice work D

Shiny and cute.
As for the material issue I have no idea how to do it in blender. Personally in max I would simply assign wire the mat to all objects, render and then revert to original mats by simply undoing the change.
Dallidas

Cute!?!?!? I'll show you cute!!
AS for the mat issue, I dont know how to do that or if it's even possible to do. We'll see.

I'm only seeing maybe 5 or 6 materials... how hard could it be to make a duplicate of the file and then change them one at a time to a basic gray?
Dallidas
24th Dec 2008, 05:59
Its not that hard really, I just would like to know if there is a way to apply a material to every object and easily switching it back. Its not the difficulty, I would just like to know if its possible.
CrimsonLine
24th Dec 2008, 16:04
It would be cool if you could designate "materials groups" like you can vertex groups...
Dallidas
24th Dec 2008, 16:48
Well you can select faces by which material is on it, and I think you can select objects by what material they have, I'm not sure though
