Remember, please one post per submission ONLY in this thread contining your image and a SHORT piece of text if you feel that your image needs some explanation.
Also remember, that Challenge #10 is now in play - so you can start creating your #10 threads as soon as you need to. If you are doing a group entry, make sure that you detail your group membership in the first post.

"Thar she blows!"
Well, hopefully not... :)
What we have here is a Victorian mini-sub in the Steampunk style. As most of us know, the spherical design disperses the water pressure equally around its surface. This allows our intrepid friend here the chance to go deeper into the watery void.
The SUDS is lowered into the water from under a special ship. From there, the thrusters are engaged for movement. The air tanks allow the pilot 8 hours of exploration - your typical work day. The arms are used for whatever means necessary to accomplish a particular task.
Thanks for the support, good luck to all! :thumb:

Here is mine...
A small indicator flashed on the instrument panel. The frieghter captain looked up at the display. The gate was within sight now. From this distance it just looked like a common moon. As the ship approached the gate, it became clear that there was nothing natural about this object. The massive rings of the field coils and various transit ways made the gate seem more like a massive ball of metal yarn.
Outside, the freighter began it's turn on a long arcing trajectory which would lead it into the 2km maw of the gate.
The captain smiled to himself, right on schedule, almost home.
Basically, the idea is that ships enter the structure from the top and fly into the portal. Incoming ships exit the portal through the bottom. The gate is the key element in a vast galactic trade route system. It functions by switching destinations around the various outlying systems, linking them to the core worlds.
The gate was originally developed for military use with many of its vital components being extensively reverse engineered from ancient alien technology. A fact that few people are aware of though, is that the device is capable of extending its portal to a nearly 50km diameter around itself allowing it and a sizable accompanying fleet to jump simultaneously.
Over the past few centuries the device's role in galactic trade has lead to the creation of six cities on its exterior surface. These serve as hubs for various merchants and governments to conduct trade negotiations.

The Darter Sprint Drone Assault Ship.
The Best I could manage in 36 Hours :D:thumb:
I'm actually quite happy, and suprised, at how easy it was to work with such a basic shape. And how the image came out. A little photoshop to composite the images together and add text. The rest was done in MAX (Including the Starfield)
Minor Edit: Due to the time constraints (having just fixed max) I deliberately went with a minimalist style and form. Hence it being a Droneship instead of a crewed vessel. This vessel will be creeping into the book i'm writing however thanks SFM and good luck!

First of all, many thanks for those, who showed up in my tread and for their c&c.
I'm afraid this is another sphere in this challenge, but it's the most space-like shape to me - or it have to be something complicated. So, sphere. This is Earth Alliance (of my own) Space Station "Crystal Harbor".
Diameter: 24,6 km.
Cargo and passenger bays: 4 sections with tree hangars each.
Heavy shielded dome with deflector shields and anti-asteroids protection.
City for more, than 2 million citizens.
Crew of this station is about 600 000 people.
Defence weapons and sensors are capable to stand a medium sized assault, but in war conditions station needs a special guards.

Action scene with my station is coming for challenge #10.
Name: anchoronian Eclipse-Class Basestar
Size: ~4000m length per edge
crew: unknown
Usage: Star-System invasion, attack and defense of territory
even while smaller than there Nova-Class ancestors, these Baseships will be the core of the anchoronian fleet for the next decades, maybe centuries. Carriing a huge amount of smaller attack and support vessels, these are a fleet of their own. Each one can server as Space-Station and multiple ones can connect to form even greater structures. There is a new urban legend that those ships are able to "grow" as far as ressources are available, just a legend of course.
(the anchoronian Empire is part of a universe of my own)
Apps used: blender, gimp
~600.000 faces, ~160.000 faces each side

Here's my entry: the Workman's Tear, multi-purpose one - two man craft. It can fill salvage, maintenance, construction, and other labor intensive roles. I'm sad that I didn't get to finishing the textures yet. :(
The ends to the manipulator arms have to be attached. They were out for repair during the time this photograph was taken :)

Excuse all puns:cool:
This is my Egg-tastic personal spacecraft! Its meant to travel between relatively close bodies in space such as a moon. It carries egg-actly 3 people.:D

Here is my entry: the G-29 Planetary Bombardment Cruiser. Designed to be used in fleets of 10-15 ships at a time, the PBC combines advanced organic alien technology with good old fashioned earth-built warehouse-style interiors.

The textures and materials are not where I want them to be, and there's a lot of modeling I still want to do on her, but the time is up, so here she is...

Here's my entry for challenge #9: The SP-01X - Spheroid Probe.
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/1798/finalpq5.jpg
The SP-01X is the last word in covert surveillance equipment. With it's unique abilities (crawling, rolling and hovering), the SP-01X is capable of operating in any environment. It can even survive and operate in vacuum environments and sub-zero temperatures. It also has 360 degree sensor coverage and top of the line visual capturing hardware allowing for scanning and recording in various different frequencies and spectrums.
All in all, if you want a surveillance job done and you want it done right, the SP-01X is your only choice!
:D
