Hello guys,
here is a new fighter. I've worked on it for a while and the basic shape is finished so far. Now it needs some detail... gridlines, cockpit interior, landing gear...
The design is inspired by the WC Arrow and the F22. So the fighter should be somewhat hard to detect. It should operate mostly in space, but it can also fly through atmospheres. It's main purpose are combat, recon and intercept missions.
Don't expect fast progres.. but i hope i will finish this one ;)
best regards
Michael

I always liked the Arrow. The F22 elements fit in well.

Looking forward to updates :thumb:

It is an alright design, but IMHO it's a little boxy for a fighter.

*Snort* Very well done, Cudailike.
In my opinion, shouldn't the craft's underhull be more angular to deflect radar?

I can for sure see the Raptor influence in it. I like it over all. The Boxy thing work IMHO, as in Space areodynamics have no relavance. I really like that engine glow in there.

The design is great! It looks like something we could built in the present if we really wanted to.

Fit for space.
Looks great!
What would be neat is to see it with a polished surface reflecting a space carrier deck.
Or a black matte stealth surface.

Yep, excellent design! Looks very interesting.

Perhaps it's a bit boxy. But i'm quite happy with it as it generally takes me a long time to settle for a final design.
About the underhull: Not sure what you mean, it doesn't matter how large the faces are, right ? Aligning all faces and edges makes a vessel stealthy, because radar is reflected only to a few directions. So actually this fighter probably wouldn't be very stealthy in real life because the faces are not really aligned. Especially the gun mounts would be problematic. But it's okay for me as long as it look a bit stealthy :D

I've always been a fan of WC for so many years now but the arrow design always bugged me a bit with the way the cockpit worked out. It always looked like there wasn't enough room for someone to actually sit in there and a set of working guns to be able to fit directly under them.

Here is a little update. The gun mounting on the underside bugged me a bit, but now it's alright. Also made minor changes to the side guns.
Oh.. and thanks for your comments ;)
I would like a polished look. The design will hopefully work with different color/material schemes.
Tochiro76, i always liked the arrow, it was one of my favorites. But it's actually quite amazing how small the pilots are compared to todays fighters airplanes. I mean the canopy looks always so huge, but the pilot beneath is kind of small. So the design was probably quite realistic

Ah yes your front end design works out much better than the pc game model did but I was thinking about going back and looking at some wc 3 pc game fmv shots where blair rushes out to get into his fighter before a mission and see how it looks for him jumping into the arrow. The sets they used for that game are very high detailed for those fighter launch and landing scenes.

i love how modern fighters have angular faces - makes it great to model!! heheh
Very nice fighter!

Thanks guys. Here is a little update. Added geometry for the thrusters and gave the underside guns some detail.
Angular faces are nice as long as they are totally flat and have perfectly sharp edges ;)

After a long time here is the current state.
The retractable landing gear is done. And i've added a cockpit interrior.

A realistic design with plenty of internal volume for fuel, weapons, etc.
Nicely done so far. :thumb:

Thanks guys. These days i'll add some tiny hull detail. It's already better than my previous models. And this time i'll try to go for a photoreal look.

Wow! That is one great and very believable concept. I know it is SF but the aeroguy in me has to make two comments. First I would make the stablizers at the rear one piece all flying instead of having rudders; like the F-117 Stealth fighter design instead of the F-15. Your going to need a lot of control authority in the atmosphere cause the ventral cannon are going to create a lot of down force from the flat plate drag they will create.
Seriously though, all my real world whining aside that is one of my favorites since Coolhand stopped doing atmospheric ships. Keep up the great work!!

you're right about the ventral cannon. I added that part after the rest of the body was done. Otherwise the ship is pretty okay i think. The main body is bulged a bit upwards to create a lift force. On the other hand there are a lot of areas, the cannon and the retro thrusters for example, that would create serious drag forces... so atmospheric flight is going to be inefficient at least..
Such geekish considerations aside, here is a new image. There are only minor updates to the hull. I spend most of the time playing with shaders and lighting.

The design is great!
It looks as a dangerous space fighter, but as an atmosphere fighter it would have aerodynamic properties of a brick (the Space Shuttle).
So as a space fighter... how long could it fly? Some ideas maybe?
I'm asking this because this fighter looks very realistic.
