I suspect it is a courier of some sort...
I got dangerously close to finishing something, so I had to throw another iron in the fire. But this is my first post-TOS mesh!

and I have to say, it's looking really good...
it's right, it is used as a fast, low-warp, courier ship...
Vulcan origin, of course...

"I suspect it is a courier of some sort..." - Pavel Chekov, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Heh.
Damn, this modern (27 year old) stuff is hard. All these little widgets and greebly things! BTW, if anyone has any good reference for this baby, I'd be ecstatic! Right now I have the pics from Andy Probert's site, the Kimble blueprints, and screengrabs from the movie.
Here's what I done today. Couple of hull hugging panels and a little pocket of indistinct greebling. Since I'm modeling with a mirror modifier the pocket shows up on both sides. It's almost the only asymetrical thing on the boat, so I'll fix it later.

Nice go on this!
I wanted to try this a long time ago but never got any good ref.
I certainly did not find the ref you have already.
Again very nice!

A little progress. Redid the widgets (now that I looked at them again with both eyes) and added the light panels around the docking ring. Also redid the lower edge of the tail to be (hopefully) more accurate.

Gaining by inches. Added a window and the docking pads. Also did up an "unmirrored mesh", that is, has one window and one set of greebles on the tail. These should have been done last, since they're the only asymetrical details, but they called to me, you know? Right now that docking port is singing my name, just cause I can use it on other TMP era Fed craft.

Fun ship to make, first model I ever finished, did it in TurboSilver no less, and damn hard with no internet references then! *tape in vcr -- freeze frame -- step five frames -- back twenty - ugh*
I seem to recall some more good photos of the actual model floating around in addition to the Probert site. But I neglected to bookmark them

More greebles, and PHASERS! (That's right, in the 23rd century, it was logical to be armed!) You get into kind of a rythm with this stuff. Mind you, the top of the ship was never seen on screen!

Wow, just started looking at this again. I've got a lot of work to do. The modeling is ok, the textures on the nacelles look good, but ouch, the top needs to about be re-done!
OTOH, I guess I'm that much closer to the way they do it for "real" because once we figured out how she would be shot I quit working on all of the "out of sight" stuff.
So here's how she wound up in her star turn in Star Trek: Of Gods and Men (act 2):
