I need to learn Maya...

Posted 11-18-2007 at 01:52 AM by Berticus
So it goes like this: the chosen package to use in Animation Mentor is the latest version of Maya. So here I am, a seasoned veteran of Blender (I know most aspects of the program and can use them somewhat efficiently) and now I'm looking to migrate to Maya. As of yet I have not found any specially targeted tutorials or any tutorials that meet my needs (that is, tell me where the poly editing tools are hiding, hot-key shortcuts - these are extremely important to me as I am a hot-key fanatic - and generally the basics... you know?).

So, some help for this poor aspiring Maya user?

I will probably be spending some money on a training course or two, so suggestions in that area would be greatly appreciated as well.

In that vein, I will be starting a WIP to learn the editing tools and then the animation tools to kind of prep myself for AM.

I appreciate any help!

They've got tons of Maya video training, and a good sized chunk of it is free. The non-free stuff isn't all that expensive, either, if you want to go that far.

Thanks Vak111, great link, tons of tutorials-I'll definitely be working my way through those (once I've done away with the PLE version of Maya... How is one supposed to model without generic mesh editing tools, anyway?)

Does Maya have to be the only tool you use? You could model in Blender and import to Maya.
