I realised this page still exists and thought I should post again. I've been reworking the Endurance (my battlestar) and in anticipation of some publically released images I've done a materials test on a rudimentary Trek ship in the WIP gallery. Your thoughts would be most appreciated if you can spare the time.

On other topics 3D related, I was impressed with the Prince Caspian film both in terms of effects and general filmic qualities. It's as good as the original and a little grittier with some much better cinematography. It tends to wander in narrative a little but the actors and actresses acquit themselves with greater solidity than before. The clever script enables them with relatively few lines each to express their character fully.

Additionally I've been messing with the beautiful but tragically underused Crytek 2 engine that powers Crysis a storming PC game that gives the average user an unbelievably powerful suite of tools modify and edit the game.

You can change every asset, sculpt your own terrain on vast maps and there's plenty of tutorials on Crymod the modding website to get you started and help you with tweaking specifics like vehicles and gameplay, a ridable horse is one of the mods already on display.

The engine is so good that professional architectural practices are using it in visualisation for various projects and several in game recreations of famous adverts have also been 'filmed' inside the engine to prove its' abilties. The engine really is a cut above the rest and relatively easy to modify and make your own as a fellow creative I highly recommend having a look.

Anyway off to do 3D, I'll post again.

‘The crack appears to extend down to the bass.' a faint green light illuminated the jagged cut running the course of the dam wall.

"Can you tell whether the sealant had any effect on the upper section?" dark tanned woman with dark purple eyes, lying fingers to her throat, praying the recent quake hadn't damaged the dam as badly as initially reported.

'One moment.' the light soon panning towards the area. 'Something must be impeding it.' finding the sealant.

'It's still tacky.' rubbing between his fingers. 'It-it's as if there's not enough grain for it take any effect.' the diver feeling as if there was something off, but could not put his finger on it.

Pausing the Project Head with two fingers. "Namb's been pouring the sealant into the cracks for nearly half an hour."

"May I remind you, if this does not work," the woman thrushing her hand for the man to be quiet so she could hear or decide what to do next. "the money I and my benefactor," the wo-man rolling her eyes. "who has already poured enough money into this project to fill this lake twenty times over will -not- be-pleased." rolling his jaw.

"First off Man'ette," (man-chet) knocking Man'ette's hand away from the main commun-ications transformer. "Do not ever shake that finger in my face." his assistant's face puckering their lips hardly believing anyone would dare speak to the man with such vigor. nor cause me to lose communications with my personal." staring straight into his skinned over eyes. "And we will get along just fine." his assistant holding his arm out for Man'ette to grasp it.

'...e sealant is just being absorbed by the surrounding wall." making out the last half of Namb's report.

"Velz reporting that it's not even setting up, it is just remaining tacky." rolling her eyes when the Man'ette is guided away.

"Make your little call, see if I give a damn." her only comment; Namb lying his hand against the dam wall, looking closely at the crack just below the sealant, shocked some when a Trinikey. Fist sized snail bopped his mask due to the current.

Where is the time going?!!

I been asking that myself lately. Why? Well I am finding that I don’t have enough time in the day to do what I want, or don’t have the time to get things finished.
There are two simple reasons for this.

1. I have taken on more duties at work, which is causing me to spend less time at my desk and more time on the Underground or Over-ground travelling to different sites around London. Some of this time I can spend modelling if I bring my laptop along. However most of the trips are very short and by the time my Laptop has booted up it time to turn it off again.

So with all this travelling it mean less time spent here during my working day. It a prise that has to be paid, if I want to pay the bill and put food the table for the wife and kids.

2. Is well, that is that I am spending time with the wife and Kids after I get in form work. By the time I have sent the kids off to bed and the misses TV shows start I am shattered, and not really in the mood to sit in front of the computer, I just want to veg in front of the TV, not really caring what on.

When I do have the will power and the energy to sit in font on the computer, I have two projects to keep me busy. (It really three, but the third one I work on the way into and out of work on the train using my laptop.) One of them you know is the film project. (I have not really spent much time on this over the last few weeks) The other is creating a Scene for a Calendar. Which I am working on over at Sci-fi Annoyances.
I got November and got some great Ideas for it, but need to get that done before the end of this summer as we are planning to realise the calendar for 2009.

So where are we now on the SFM film Project?

Well the final scene is in and another scene has been reworked so if flows better. Everyone is a lot happier with the second Draft, so it is now safe to say that the Pilot script is done.

The script which is now in scene will be broken up and given to different people so they can do a storyboard. Of course this will mean it scene will look different in the storyboards, but this won’t affect the final look of the film as they will be done in the same style. However the reason that we are doing it this way is so that we don't’ wait month for one person to get the storyboard done as it could be hundreds of different pictures.

The concept team are still working away. I have said this before and I’ll say it again Spudmonkey is coming up with some really great stuff, If fact everyone is.

I would like to take this moment to thank everyone that has worked on this project for all their hard work, without them this project would not be where it is and would not be a reality.

So a big Thanks You.
Now I need to find some time…

I've been posting news to scifi-meshes.com for some time now and I have to tell you. It's a pain in the arse.

1. No one really thinks I have a soul.
2. I go totally unappreciated for all my hard work.
3. I get no "thank yous"
4. I'm surrounded my uber nerds who would rather model the world then live in it.

This little rank is for all those people out there who hate us News "people". We have dreams, hopes and aspirations to do the very best work we can. We have the desire to provide our readers the very best news written for us.

I repost my news with determination and diligence to post exactly what on another website regardless of it's relevancy to SFM or it's members. I post every miss spelled word exactly as I find it! Dam it! it's hard work posting stuff no one cares about! Yet hour by hour I search the net to bring you all the news that is and all the news that will be.

You... yes you.. members of SFM. Read my posts, learn from them, and burn them into your soul with the full knowledge that I "Newshottie" didn't even ready what was given to me, I just Frakk'n posted it. So bring on the apple pealing widget, the lost dog in the Navada desert, and the new color paint offered for the iphone! It's got nothing to do with 3D but I don't frakk'n care.. It's news to someone - somewhere, and I'm bring'n it!

What's today's date anyway?

I'm not sure, at this stage, if I have much to contribute at this new-technology scifi-meshes oriented site, but I'll hang around and learn. I'm a busy internet poster. Here is a short description of my work::cool:

My literary activity on the world-wide-web is a personal and quite industrious enterprize. When I can find the time I am engaged in creating across this global internet a tapestry of poetry and prose. At this site, readers will find one of my many journals, diaries or blogs. These various terms are used by various internet sites for a series of posts by one writer/author. The series of posts at this site is one of the many parts of this tapestry of prose and poetry I refer to above.

This literary creation, this literary industry, has been created in the early evening of my life, in the last years of my middle age(56-59) and the first years of my late adulthood(60-64), by a retired teacher and lecturer who is now 64. He attempts to endow many a theme from the social sciences and humanities, from spiritual and secular subjects, with many layers of meaning. He tries to combine a high seriousness with a light and humorous style when appropriate. This literary goal is difficult to achieve and has been a slowly evolving ambition since settling into Australian society in the 1970s after moving from Canada where I was born in 1944.

Arrrrrrr!!!

So we have been working of the SFM Film Project for some time now, and what do we have to show. Well not much. Why?
The simple answer is that we started this project all wrong and got head of ourselves.
Due to this and RW commitments we lost people that was working on the project.

With the start of the New Year I was hoping that this would change but alas thing did not start out that way due to problems with the script. Hence the Arrrr.

So where are we now, well the second draft of the script is nearly completed, and everything seem to like this version more.
Spudmonkey has joined the concept team and he is coming up with some really great stuff.
The concept team are defining the look of the universe we want to create.
So in another words Per-production of the project has finally kicked into gear.

What next?
Well storyboards of the script needs to be drawn up, this well help up decide angle and the like for the shoot that would be used in the final film.
The Concepts Team will continue to create the look. Once we are far enough along. The modeller will start to model everything that the concept team has designed.
Then we can go for Per-production to production.

If you have any question please feel free to ask them here. :thumb:

Animation Mentor : Review and the Future

For the last three months I have been attending Animation Mentor. I have to say I have learned more in that time than at any time previously in my life. Honestly. The people are straight forward about what they teach and how they teach it.

The first term was about the twelve basic principles of animation. So I kind of straggled my way through doing the minimum. It dawned on me at the beginning of this term that I was actually studying to be a professional (there's a difference between knowing and knowing) and that I'd better hunker down and focus.

Needless to say I've been doing just that. I actually dropped college so I could focus on animation.

One of the reasons I'm even able to do that is because I can actually focus on animating for extended periods of time. I've never really been able to do that before with anything else. I just could never pay attention long enough to finish things. But I can and am with AM. It's very nice to settle in at my computer and focus on animation.

I've divided my attention, though, against two fronts. Not only am I learning animation but I have taken up learning the ins and outs of Blender. We'll see how that settles out.

I will continue with weekly updates here on AM.

New pcs, vista, and other annoying things

Treat myself to a new PC on friday, a HP A6250, quad core, 3Gb Ram, Geforce 8400, 500Gb hard drive, so far so good.

Checked out the quick set up, plugged everything where it needed to go, including the very specific instructions where the monitor lead was meant to go.

I see a little not that says your screen maybe blank for 10-60 minutes, so I wait watching this blank screen for three hours.

Then I notice in the box is a little adaptor, it plugs into the monitor lead, and once thats in place you have to plug it in a different place to where the instructions tell you to put it, but once it was there, where they dont tell you to put it, and dont tell you to use the adaptor, the pc is up and running.

I hate Vista with a passion, and annoyingly enough, despite them telling me at comet my pc had a wireless conection built in, it didnt.

I had a spare USB wireless thing that I got with my router, so I stuck that in the back, and of course, Vista didnt have the driver installed, I didnt have the disk, and the only way to get the driver was to go online which I couldnt do without the wireless working, which it wouldnt until I had the driver.

I tried downloading the driver on my laptop, but since that was also vista, it just installed the driver in some obscure place where I could never find it, so had to end up downloading it on my old pc, transfering the file to a USB memory stick, installing that on the new one, then finally I could get an internet connection on my new pc.

Albiet one that disconnects every time the pc goes to screen saver.

Hey,

New to this arena and thought I would let you all know about the cyberpunk radio gig I've been producing for the last couple of years- we are up to almost 100 episodes as of Dec 2007. The format is pretty open, but generally consists of cyberpunk themed episodes on government-corporation-apocalypse and of course the Rise of the Machines. We do vids and audio, both can be subscribed to for free through iTunes or directly from our blog.

Getting Back to Work

Happy Belated New Year to all.

The New Year did not start off on a good footing for the Film Project, as Andrew March (the assistant project lead) has left the project and taken the name *Feinders Keepers* with Him.
This was due to RW commitments. So form the now project will now be known as *Untitled SFM Film Project.*

We have also lost a few other staff members due to RW commitments, and I offer them the best of luck in what they are now currently doing. The door has not been closed to them, and they are welcome to come back to the team when they have the time to commit to the project.

But it not all bad news. The team has come back form the Christmas holidays ready to get stuck in again. I am now currently reworking the production tasks to fit more of a professional production. This does not mean that tasks that would normal be worked on later on in the production would be stopped. As those tasks have already started, we will carry them on until completed.

The writers are going over the first draft of the script and will begin on writing the second draft shortly.

The Concept Team, are getting back together and will be showing off what they have done so far, and looking at what is left to be done.
As there are still tones of Concept art to do. Staff members that where brought on to do different jobs, that will not start until later in the production have been asked to help out the Concept Team.

This means that at this time we are now looking for Artist to join the concept team. What we are looking for is someone that can creates a design form a simple disruption. 2d is the quickest way to do it, however if you are better at 3d than 2d and can knock up a quick concept design with not to much details. Then you are also welcome to join.
All we ask for is for you to show some off some of your work.

If you are interested then please post in the recruitment thread that’s in the Recruitment Forum, here at SFM.

Hi again,

As those of u who follow the storytracer project kknow (and I kinda somewhere hope some of you do :) ) I started VFS to weeks ago and the amount of work is pretty insane but learning plenty of things and seeing mistakes that I build into storytracer. the whole process of setting up a project is getting more solid thanks to this but it means more work as well.
So things keep on progressing and I hope to be able to post some sort of a beta during the coming months.

Cheers
