XMAS2006 - evil_genius_180 - "Santa's Shop 3006"

It's been a while since I did a WIP over here, so I thought I'd jump back in with this cool Christmas challenge. I decided to go with a futuristic Santa's Workshop and/or Garage for my theme, complete with robot elves, some form of hover sleigh and probably a toy teleporter.

I decided to start with the elves. Since my organics skills are nonexistent, I decided robotics was the way to go. I'll probably have 3 to 5 of these guys in the scene, loading the sleigh and carrying presents and stuff like that. They'll all be the same basic model, I'm calling it E.L.F. 2.0, just for grins. But, I'll accessorize and texture them differently. This is where this guy stands after about 20 minutes of work, including a little time spent screwing around with lights and cameras.

Thanks.

My elfbot now has an upper torso. Aside from individual details on the different models, that's about all there is for that part. Most of the details will be textured, anyway. Now I just have the abdomen/waist, pelvis, legs and feet to go. The I can move on to the individual elves themselves and the rest of the scene.

Looking great EG! I like the futuristic look he's got, and very "Christmas-y" looking colors! He looks like he'd make a great oranment on a tree!

Keep up with me at my BLOG

So are they going to be floating disembodied torso's? all the more futuristic!... but I like that I'm seeing so far.

Thanks for the kind words, everybody.

The colors are placeholders for the textures I'll be making, but I figured I'd at least make my placeholders Christmas colors. And, I did tool around with the idea of having the roboelfs fly around on little jet boosters instead of legs, like the Kryptonian robots in the Fortress of Solitude in the Superman comics, but I wound up going with legs. I've never built a full robot before, but it was on my "to do" list.

Next is either texturing on these guys or work on the other modeled components of the pic, whichever I decide to do tomorrow.

It has the right cute look to it. I like it. Maybe those googles are a bit too "flashy", bur hey! those are Elves right?
