Ok here we go:

Concept 1:

Concept 2:

Concept 3:

These are obviously extremely rough concepts, the final chair will most likely look like none of these as with most concept design stages but they give an idea of where I'm heading.

Those look cool . . I think I dig concept 2 the best. It keeps everything in your face.

Number 2 looks the most interesting, but the other two have better access and egress. Perhaps a combination of a near full surround but with easier access?

When I first thought of the Ceiling Mounted Design, access was the most important aspect of the chair, I will be addressing that for sure.

Taking comments and my own personal favourite choice into consideration, I've opted to make a version of concept number 2. Here is the first WIP (of many more to come hopefully) render from my model:

That looks very nice, I know I'd like to work in that chair! Well, as long as I can put my arms on some supports in breaks

Arm rests will be included (swively ones at that :P) but not until later on in the design phase, most probably just before I go into the detailing phase.

Definitely an improvement, I'm quite liking this one!

I think what you need to do is make sure that the centre of gravity is about equal, for the weight of the user, or else you're going to stress the bearing. Possibly making it a little adjustable (maybe computer controlled, with pistons moving the position a little? That in turn could be cool, as it could be used for shock absorbing, which is one of the strengths of this type of design.

You may want the console to be moveable, and perhaps have it mounted on the arms, so that they swing in, encasing the user (so he doesn't fly out of the thing!) conceptually I just like the upside down question mark as a form

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!
