Well, here it is: The final leather texture. I am very happy with how this thing came out. I made a leather crack brush by hand and applied many brown and black layer variation of paint in Photoshop with the brush. The final texture is 7500x7500 which is the largest ive ever worked with. What do you guys think?

Edit: Here is a higher quality, light traced image with better detail.

Hmm could use a little more shine, but the colour component is really nice! You could also use more subdivisions on your mesh, it's looking a little segmented in places.

and yeah, you should be finished soon enough!

Yeah, the segmented places are messing with me a little bit. The shine will get better. I was mostly worried about the color and texture because I haven't tried something like this before. It actually turned out how I wanted. Thanks, Tobian.

Very nice so far. I like the clean lines an clean modeling technique. Looks very functional!

I also like the leather texture too, but I agree, it needs more specularity and shine. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, CGandy75. I am working on rendering an update which is smoother and much shinier. Granted, to show off the shininess I had to add a few extra lights but that doesn't degrade the render that much. 2 hours so far rendering and it's about half finished. Will post the result as soon as I get home from work tonight.

After 5 hours 35 minutes and 10 seconds of rendering, I have a fairly believable leather(at least to me it is)

At that render time I think i am going to have to make sure the seat is not visible to the camera to save on render time. That destroyed my computer.
What do you guys think of it though?

I thought you guys might like to have a leather texture to add to your libraries so here is my leather texture. I didn't use it in my model but it was made the same way. If you do use it just say you got it from thorthefifth and we'll be straight. Hope you guys like it.

PS- This is not a seamless texture. Sorry.

35 minutes! I'm lucky if my renders take less than 2 hours

Nice looking texture, and yes the seat now looks much better. The only thing I'd say is if you could perhaps detail the seams to the leather, either as a bump map, or modelled in?

it might be good if that console arm, with the control panels was extendible, as it might not suit every working configuration?

trust me it is. I have been doing some tests on the pivot and telescoping of the controls and I will post some configurations to show the range of the motion. Thanks, Tobian

Excellent, you could include some close-ups on your composite of the final chair maybe? Looking forward to seeing the final entry!
