Neat idea Z... I'll have to test the mat settings to see if I can actually do that.

If I have to I'll try it in post though.

heh cool idea there oz! you could really push it and make it 4 beams of light 1 vertical to sit on, 1 horizontal to sit back on and 2 for the arms!

Just as a thought, given that you love your greebly goodness: Why not have the underside of the mechanism be filled with the complex mechanisms that underlie the elegant and simple top surface. So once the panels come away to arange themselves into the users configuration, you can see little mechanisms, lights and interesting bits on the recesses in the floor. What's more they would be more or less radially cloned, so if you come up with the design you don't need to do 50 different designs hehe

I think the cushions could use being a little more soft in shape, to suggest... they are comfortable and I kind of imagine them looking nicer in a leather-style finish, rather than a felt/fabric one. But overall it's a really nice concept... if you can work out how it's going to be rigged/ get your glowy material right.

Not knowing how Blender or Kytheria works, my initial reaction is it's something to do with a ray recursion limit: the number of times a ray will bounce/refract on reflective/transparent surfaces... Perhaps there's a setting hidden somewhere round there

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

Everytime I think of sitting on a force beam it makes me all warm and tingly

Thanx for that reply Tobian!

I had some greebles planned so no worries there

As to the seats, I hadn't considered leather, but I like that idea.

Plus there is still many settings to try for the beams. I posted a question on the Kerkythea site, and It seems I can get around the problem by using a different render mode.

Cool, hope you manage to sort out your problem!

I can imagine maybe a red or a white leather, but I'm sure it'd look cool no matter what one you chose (or don't!) Realistic fabrics are pretty hard to do in 3D, depends on how much of a challenge you want!

That's come along quite a bit! Cool!

Perhaps you could put in clusters of things which serve as 'projectors' or if you're doing the tentacle idea, then something for it to come out of hehe I'm picturing something, maybe like a dome, with lenses all over it or some such? I'm sure you'll come up with something

Another thing that might look cool could be holes in the wall surrounding the central 'glowing ball, so you can see into the energy core area in the centre?

You're red leather could use a little more reflectivity, maybe just a fresnel with some reflector objects scattered around the 'roof' give it that sort of elegant leather feel?
