Wait no further...

I made some insides for the control panel. And after a little deliberation I decided that all the sections should be independent. although they can join together in spots.the little glowy things in the details are going to be the emitters. While active the chair generates a wide network of force beams as that will help with lateral stability.

Thanx! That blue ball is the control panel. It has a holographic projector inside, as well as a passive medical sensor. Its going to be connected using a large robotic cable eventually.

Damn that's cool looking.

Can you share some tips on how to get decent looking cushions like how you're doing? A wireframe would probably be sufficient tho.

Ok, first I totally missinterpreted your design. I didn't realize all those pieces in the floor made the actual chair. I thought it was just a platform for the chair to sit on. Yes, I am guilty of skimming through the text and just looking at the pics. Now that I understand what's going on, I can say the design is pretty brilliant. I wonder how many different types of chairs you can come up with the given peices. The control orb is looking pretty cool too.

Thanx guys!

Jay-mo: Its quite possible that the pieces can form almost any shape... the pieces can tilt as well.

Certainly...
The cushions are a simple red diffusion, with some specularity. the shininess has been turned down. Here is the wire, the cushion was fairly simple to make, I just created a cube that matched the shape, then extruded inwards and outwards once for the buttons, then subdivided the object.

Very cool Idea Ozy, I love the idea behind your chair. Very original!
