| "Spooky" Mulder | Challenge #6 – Farcry – Field Command Chair Finally decided to enter after a few days of thinking and sketching. Some really good threads going on already, good luck everyone ![]() This is the first time i have gone into alot of thought and sketching for a project, i am sure i will be adding more to the design as i progress. Here is a little background which i thought up for the setting of my chair. --- Field Command Chair --- My entry is a commanders chair for battlefield command. I am not sure if it's set in the future, or on a world in a distant part of the galaxy but the theme will be a grungy, industrial setting where commanders couldnt care less if they are lit up on the battlefield for all to see. These guys are wreckless, fearless and strike terror into both their own troops and that of the enemies... but they are good. They are selected from the best strategists in the war academies and trained into mean, strict leaders who have no problem sending millions to their deaths if it can win a battle. I want the chair to reflect this, so it's design may seem quite rediculous in places, where a simpler design could do the same (or a better) job. The chairs themselves are a symbol of the power these commanders have. They are hulking, poluting, monsters which give the user complete battlefield command. From squad movement to orbital strikes, these chairs give commanders the ability to control millions of units effectively. Firstly, they are mobile. A commanders got to have mobility, and these chairs walk with 6 large piston operated legs designed to stab into the ground (as well as people) for traction. Full life support and re-breather systems allow commanders to battle in inhospitable environments and survive chemical and biological attacks. A main holographic display (fully 3d with zoom, pan and rotate) gives the commander a clear view of the battlefield should weather or position obstruct his view. The display allows the commander to select anything from a platoon of battle tanks to a single scout unit and give them waypoints which they can see on their eyepeice, or bellow orders into their headset. The chair also holds the standard or flag of the users faction, to inspire troops to fight and die for whatever the cause. The whole chair is protected by Anti-Missle counter-measures, an energy shield generator and automatic self defence turrets and of course, the commander himself, armed with his weapons of choice, years of combat training and specially selected bodyguards. ---- Lots of words But i think thats my idea nailed down now, but it may change due to either my lack of modeling skils, personal preference or any ideas anyone else might have ![]() Attached are a few crude sketches of certain parts of the chair, as well as a messy page of my first ideas when i was reading the competition briefing. I haven't actually sketched the whole chair yet, and i don't think i will be able to as it is beyond my skill. I am going to start with some basic models to finalise my sketches, and probably add more of my crappy drawings as i make them |

| I really like the leg sketches so far... looking forward to seeing a sketch of the entire chair as well (or a rough 3d model of it) to really get a sense of how it will look... |

| Didn't read the whole description of the chair, but it looks and sounds like it will be a nice one! I like the legs! I don't think it's that important to sketch the whole chair before you start modeling, I only made a rough sketch of the basic chair stuff, and am making the rest up as I go. Whatever works for you really |

| Looks like a cool thing. Especially with the banner. I also like the details you worked out. Like having pistons for up/down |

| Nice, I had a similar idea for my chair, looks like I'll have to revise my design. |

| Hallway Monitor | OOh nice, a gothic/dark/steampunk feeling going on here, reminds me somewhat of Warhammer designs. Some beaten panels, lots of steam pistons (fits nicely with fusion era technology dotchathink! ), insect like articulated limbs, in vicious spiky metal, and the odd bit of gothic styling/sculpture should add to this very nicely! |
