I'm loving the shape of it! The textures aren't doing anything for you though. hmm. You probably want to layer a number of procedurals to get a decent granite.. it'd be really hard to unwrap this and get a good consistent granite material, so procedurals could be the way to go. Granite is quite fine grained, and usually quite shiny! I'd recommend putting a Fresnel gradient on reflection and put a bunch of 'invisible to camera' reflector objects to give it something interesting to reflect. You also need a bump map to go with your granite and possibly some mild displacement.. the style of it makes me think it should almost be a little worn with slightly rounded tops to the columnars and with chunks missing, but then if you're gong with the smooth look... it should save you a lot of time texturing!

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

This is pretty cool. I love the concept. I could just imagine how cool the animation would be with the parts of the floor rising up to form the chair. Definitely a cool concept.

thanks
I just hope I can do it justice in time to enter it

I just had an idea. what if the chair was in a Stonehenge type place, and has been inactive for centuries, and has moss and grass, dirt, mold etc on it? hmm . . . I've never done plants before
that might be a little too difficult for a 2 week challenge

I'm not aware of an ivy script for truespace . . . I may abandon that idea for time reasons

There is a free little standalone program that generates Ivy, someone posted a thread here about it. I can try and hunt down the link if you like.

dude, I love this idea! for some reason it reminds me slightly of the throne room from the stargate movie...

are you going to add any type of detailing to the elements that come out of the floor? maybe have a 'control panel' that is a kind of mini-hex system that comes out of the arm rest area? when it pops up it turns into different controls?

nice job!!
