Granite I've seen is usually (if finished) sort of like a dense agglomerate or particles. When you polish it you cut through the lumps, so they are usually quite polished, but the bits in between are rougher, so if you equate that to reflection maps, they would be more reflective for the solid lumps and round them less reflective (or more bumped). Hopefully something there will inspire you!
wow excellent resource! you rock

You're welcome It's just those aren't necessarily useful as texture maps, as it'll be a pain to UV them

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

Don't forget about [CGTextures] they have some great free textures there as well...

I really love that last render as well, Andy! And I'll agree with Hal, it does have that type of feel, kind of like something you'd see in the fortress of solitude. The control elements, and lighting look very cool, some fine tuned textures will really make this shine!

bookmark'd

made a control pad for each armrest, and I've got a render goin' that will show those . . . might take a while

in the meantime here's another try at textures
for some reason the floor was reflecting nicely while the throne wasn't
I have since completely toned down the splotchy procedural stuff

That is looking brilliant! Great work!

so are you going to make something that is projecting the holograms?

I love the geometric nature of this chair. It looks like a throne more so now with the holograms.

Hmm well the control interfaces should look maybe a little like that? I like the hex layout and design!

I'm not sure if it does need a projector. I think the very simple nature of it means it probably shouldn't have 'greebles' to it, it would spoil the look.

That splotchy texture is quite good (if big) Try tying the reflection channel to it as well, subtly. It's starting to look pretty cool now, definatelly much more of a granite look about it!

I quite like these control pads
not sure why they came out black . . . they should be the same material as the rest of the chair

also on the agenda is to fillet the corners instead of that big giant bevel
it's just easier to work with as it is now
