Challenge #6 - backstept - ancient hex throne

the basic idea I had for the chair is that it's a throne that rises up from the ground and forms a chair using hexagonal pillars of stone or somesuch

my main goal for this is to make a good stone shader, and hopefully animate the throne rising from the floor

sorry no visuals yet
I'm sketching it out in CAD on the sly here at work

Something like the Giants causeway... the Giants chair! Reminds me a little of the technology employed by the Tok'ra in Stargate, make from hexagonal-ish crystals. Cool.

Visit my Endless Pluto Station project, I'm still working on it, honest!

hmm . . . Tok'ra stuff is more crystal-y than I'm going for
I'm thinking of something like granite

okay here's a snapshot from ACAD
Mister greenbox is 6'0"

the surrounding parts will raise/lower, but I only had time to do the main chair
the top image will be the pattern on the floor in the lowered position

[edit] just thought of something . . . this chair is sortof like the one from Flight of the Navigator inside the ship
mine won't be chrome though

SWEET!! I was waiting for someone to do the crystalline approach!

This makes me think of the Fortress in superman for some reason.

Really nice, and yeah I was thinking fortress of solitude too!

Perhaps to break that up then, put some more of those blocks (smaller) which come out at opposing angles? It would look cool to see it rise out of the floor of random crystalline forms!
