Challenge #6 - hal - A Chair For All Ages

Okey dokey, since I have a weeks break from work that started today, I can now enter the comp and surf the boards.

After thinking long and hard about the brief, I went through various ideas! Some far to grand for the time limit set for the challenge so I finally came up with a the idea of a turret/mech chair, a chair that is slightly different to the everyday gunner or pilots chair that we have seen!
Here is the idea work I did on the 9 hour plane journey back from NY to the UK. The chair and turret are one unit so I plan to model the whole thing (minus the driver/gunner character) in 3d. I'm still thinking about how to attach the chair to the rest of the mech, how the controls will look and give the vehicle a back story and name (I'm thinking something along the lines of Crab or Mule). As you can I've given the chair a slight manga feel (especially the mech).
Any suggestions and C&C are very welcome.

Good luck everybody

im really not sure how someone would actually sit in that chair. Its shape is quite unusual. I love the mech thing though thats great! Cant wait to see how you model this!

That mech is freaking cool, but it looks like your chair could use some belts to strap the user in. Quad mechs don't have the most fluid of movement, the bumps from the walking would probably throw the pilot/gunner out. :P

SWEEEET! I love the manga/anime style. You definitely nailed it. This is going to look great in 3d. I'm not sure what to suggest, I'd rather see what you come up with. Maybe a built in periscope viewing device instead of a standard screen monitor, since the gunner's line of sight seems to be blocked.

Really kick-a** drawing and design Hal! This would be a really nice 2d entry as well... Love the style of the whole thing!! Do the bottom parts, by the lower legs on the chair, close around the legs after you sit in it?

Looks very cool man... gonna be fun watching this thing... I hope we get some juicy closeups of that chair!

Cheers for all the feedback guys, unfortunately due to personal problems I did not have time to reply to your comments and suggestions and had to drop out the challenge, though not all is lost I'm back now and I think I'll still make this as a WIP.

Cheers again!
