| Chair of mental control The little story: This chair is used to control and command living ships in the distant future. At this era, no more electrical devices are used. Everything is control by the mind. The hands are used as interface. Even if its technicaly possible to stay connected permanently, connection is cut when the user quits the seat to maintain mind privacy. The hands and the ribs open themselves before sitting or standing. Things learned: most of all : work ultra quickly, as i started only yesterday thanks to the shortcuts work quickly with the material editor use of the hold-fetch function (before doing something un-undoable, hold, do the thing, not good? fetch then.) (cause I had to disable the undo function on my poor laptop to save the memory) a few technical details: 3rd rough sketch was the one I went for (see in the wip) modelled in a few hours (+/- 6) rendered 100% max scanline. I hate vray (3 lights, 1 skylight) rendertime : 11minutes work in progress |

| Alien Chair (or the cute space bunny) Alien chair: This cute animal is raised with the sole purpose of serving his master. Once the captain dies, a new chair must be assigned. It can walk in the bridge, and in the case of emergency, cut free from the cables. The electrical parts are integrated with the biological ones. Two tails serve as consoles while the third one houses the holographic proyector and the com cables. The chair itself houses a few sensor for vital signs. Personal milestones: First organic model finished (ever) First time with displacements maps To see how this beauty came to life: http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/c...air-alive.html |

| My first sensi challenge, unfortunatly everything didn't turn out exactly how I had planned. I had planned to do a finished product but a migration32 trojin downloaded by a sibling who will remain nameless forced me to rethink this... This forced me to reformate my computer, as of today most of my programs are still offline (includeing 3dsmax). So I had to finish this on my brothers computer, which lacks the "niceities" I was planning on useing.so yeh... couple of set backs... WIP Thread Basically my submission is the throne/ seat of power of the Timpire, which is a universal empire. Most of the influence on the character and ship design are from anime so It made sense to draw alot of design elements from asia. I know the design is suppose to focus heavly on the chair, but I felt the whole Throne as an element was the seat of power. So all the surroundings are ment to empisize the seat itself. |

| SFM Fanfilm Attack Dog | The Aquarius is a Deep Sea Rapid Response Vehicle. It's Main mission is that of a courier, running highly need objects and personnel between one undersea city and another. Some of them have also been equipped as as Fast Attack craft as well as under sea listening posts ![]() http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/c...ent-chair.html The main challenge for me was to stay with the concept and not get distracted by non-computer stuff as well as getting the Lighting and Textures to look the way I wanted them too. I could probable redo some of them but frankly I am out if time |

| Drone Control Chair - Armorhead The Drone Control Chair: For generations, pilots have been flying and dying in fighter craft. Now it's time for a change. With the Drone control chair theres no need for pilots to die from being destroyed in a weak fighter craft. This chair controlls unmanned combat drones from the safety of the carrier ship. The interface sends visual and sensory signals directly to the brain, so it is even better than being right inside the fighter craft. The drone is controlled by a control panel and a joystick right at the pilots finger tips at all times. Carriers will now have rooms in them that have rows of these chairs controlling fighters, and these chairs can be stacked on top of each other, allowing many pilots in a small space. Carriers would now be able to store more fighter craft, since these unmanned drones have no need for oxygen, pilots space etc. Also the drones could be stored in a very compact space, as they just need to be released into space, not accessed by pilots who would have to walk to the fighter. What I learned: I learned alot during this project, alot more than i expected actually. When i started out i thought the project was stupid. who wants to make a chair? then i realized how open the project was and how creative you could be with it and my opinion completely turned around. Before this project i always wondered how wires and cables were made. I learned that all i had to do was draw them with splines and then turn them renderable. A completely great feature that i was unaware of. Also this was my first attempt at creating an a fitting atmosphere with lighting. I experimented with area lights and shadows, and also learned that you should light with spotlights and omni lights, not just omni lights as i had previously done. My modelling experience has gone up i believe, as i could not seem to greeble well before this project. Although i am by no means great at it, i think i have a way better knack at it then i did before. Thankyou for reading, i realize its probably a bit long, and im glad i could participate in the challenge, and hope to enter next time WIP THREAD: http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/c...rol-chair.html |

| SFM Nugget | Fox Den Command Chair XJ-45291-MIL UCAV Control Seat This model of the Fox Den Command Chair is used to control the Stinger class Unmanned Combat Aerospace Vehicle (UCAV). This chair is has several key features that make it unique from it’s civilian counter part in that it has the software to control every kind of UCAV, or UAV in the Earth Force arsenal. For this reason the CPU had to be larger forcing the chair’s pedestal to have a cold box directly on top of the CPU itself which is situated behind the pilot’s backrest. Also on this version is the extensive keyboard input allowed by the JR-57 Keypad, this pad allows the pilot to control the weapon systems as well as the large sensor suite on board the Stinger UCAV. The wrapping glass is the display screen but with out actually being able to put a display on it i feel that this detail can easily be over looked. As far as technical problems, I should point out that this is my first attempt at modeling something so complex as well as rendering it. I had to re-learn the modeling side of AutoCAD as well as doing my first ever renderings with materials. This is probably why my model, while looking simple and lacking the polish of the other models, took me a staggering 18 hours modeling, a combined 1 hour of rendering, as well as around 30 minutes of Adobe Illustrator work for the final presentation of the renders. My Work in Progress thread can be found here: http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/c...lots-seat.html FYI Judges I have to give a Shout to the person that was the biggest help on this project and that would have to be Tobian. |

| Ok here it is. This is my first attempt at a sensei challenge... any form of 3d challenge or competion now that i think of it. It has been alot of fun and quite challenging to produce this model, I tampered around with some new techniques and practiced some old ones. Few quirky things id like to mention. Theres hardly any lights. Theres a single skylight for GI purposes but thats it. All effects of glows and such are modelled and textured planes all procedurally made using gradient ramp and some noise. Also Iv never used editably poly's befor but it was suggested I try it for chamfered edges. I was reluctant at first but towards the end of the project ALOT of my objects were editable poly's. And finally, the model weighed in at 61,323 poly's. Bit harsh for a chair but seeing as its for my own personal use I havnt bothered with optimizing and probably wont until my viewports stutter to a halt. THE CHAIR. The chair is intended for current or near future single or dual pilot vehicles. For that reason you can see some influences from old and current day cockpit chairs. This is a functional and modular approach to a cockpit chair. The chair is fully adjustable and ready to be dropped into virtually any cockpit without alteration. This works because the chair adjusts relative to itself not its fixings on the ground. It features a physically interactive holographic control system, an ejection system and a field survival system consisting of supply packs, radio's all stored in and around the chair. Thanks again to all who commented and helped out in my WIP THREAD http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/c...t-chair-3.html Best of luck to all who enter. |

| SFM Guru | EVIL ALIEN COMMAND CHAIR This is a command chair for an evil race of aliens. The chair enhances thier telepathic abilties, in order to control the drone like subordinates. The chair can levitate with the help anti-gravity devices and is powered by the life force of other races. ![]() WIP THREAD I know this is unfinished but you get the idea. |

| Here's my entry to the Chair challenge. The WIP THREAD is here. This is the command chair for a medium sized multi-function ship. The seat and monitor are supported on a circular frame to allow maximum comfort and ergonomic support during acceleration changes such as during landing and take off or during atmosphere re-entry. The seat will rotate based on different forces and the weight and size of the occupant to provide maximum comfort and support. The screen is fully adjustable and rotates on the circular frame as well. The tactile controls at the end of each armrest allow for easy maneuvering and control of the vessel. This challenge came at the perfect time for me. I have just recently purchased Lightwave and have been going through the manuals and a book that I bought but have not really tried to complete an actual project yet with it. After a little coaxing (thanks GP!) I started working on the chair and found my self learning Lightwave more than I had in the past few weeks prior. Every time I needed to create a new part or texture a new area it required me to learn how to do it in Lightwave. All the people that gave good crits and advice really helped me with this project but also really helped me learn LW. So thanks everyone! I still don't really feel fully comfortable with the texturing and rendering in LW, and I know I have tons to learn but I really feel that I've progressed a lot after completing this project. And now... here's my entry: |

| Xanthra's Chair Entry WIP Thread Here : http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/c...hra-chair.html My chair is really more of an acceleration couch and life support pod rolled into one. Since my concept would be uninteresting from the exterior, I decided to try to show a prototype setup in a lab environment so the tanks and valves and things would be visible. I had to learn an awful lot about textures and macros in order to get as far as I did. I hadn't tried to render fluids previous to this. The translucent texture of the still congealing shock gel took a lot of fiddling and I think I had just the right amount of oily irridescence in some of my test renders, but when I scaled it up to fit the human figure, it lost something. I struggled with Poser 5 for more than a week trying to create a humanoid form in fetal position but I eventually found Ulrich von Bek's BlobMan macro for POVRay, which saved my bacon. It took a while to work out the pose and integrate the macro and various include files into my Kpovmodeler project, but I think he looks pretty good. If I'd had more time, I'd have started trying to figure out how to make hoses and wires with sphere sweeps and taken a stab at some transparent image maps to layer over the glass and metal textures. I'd have liked to put graduation lines on the glass to show the level of the liquid. I really wanted to model a few pieces of life support equipment and put them all in a rack next to the tank, but I guess I'll just have to finish it up after the contest is over : ) |
