| I had several ideas for this challenge but only one was somewhat original. Regrettably I had a nose bleed over the sketchbook where I drew them, so I'm not going to bother scanning them in. I did reproduce them with photoshop tho... The idea that I had is more of a chair that monitors the events of a massive area, with the ability to control actions in some way to manipulate those events. Originally this was a simple task, but as the range of the chair's monitoring abilities increased, the drain on the user also increased. Eventually the chair itself begain to warp and change, turning into the current form. The original holo-projectors have become twisted shadows of their former sleek nature. The only parts that retain their original nature is the actual wood and the cushions where the monitor sits. ![]() Also, a proposed render with the monitor concept as well: ![]() I don't know if I'll get the guy finished by the 29th...I've yet to finish a character model, and I've never rigged anything before. This chair tho, I'm starting as soon as I post this. |

| Cool start!! I like the idea of the chair changing over time. what are the processes involved in that? |

| SFM Guru | For some reason, both the design and background story has an anime feel to it, which is a good thing, in my opinion. A simple wooden chair morphinng into something twisted. That's totally the bizzare type of stuff I see in anime all the time. Cool stuff man. |

| Eh, sorry about the lack of updates on this thread, but my wireless network is being a "son of a female dog" and not recognising the router 10 feet away. So the only reall chance i have at posting stuff is here at school. :/ Just a basic update tho, i've finished the chair aside from the techno-organic bits that make up the back and center rear of it. Nothing really to show because I've yet to make any cool renders. Just look at my sketch, and imagine it in 3d....that's pretty much how it exactly looks. I'll get some screenshots here tomorow, hopefully with the biotech as well. |

| ![]() ![]() Well, here's what I've got to after a half hour or so of 3d doodling... pipes are hard to do. Kudos to all of you who've already mastered the art of greebles. (half hour for the pipes, i finished the majority of the chair earlier this week) Well, back to the grindstone with me. edit; I removed the pointless loops to the curved section on the rear of the chair...they were annoying me. |

| Hallway Monitor | That's a nice first start! - No one ever said greebles were easy, we're just insane I like the style of this, a sort of hand crafted wood chair with technology elements, but again, with a plant like theme. It reminds me of something, I can't quite place, but either way, it's going to be excellent, if you can finish it in time! ![]() You're tree-branch/wire assemblies are going to be a huge pain... or really easy, depending on your software, and how fast you get a handle on it! I like the screen concepts too - the sketches are pretty nice.. Maybe for your final visual, have an overlaid pencil sketch of the operator, that could look very effective, and compliment the subject matter (the jusxtaposition of technical and hand crafted artisanry, against CG and hand drawn elements). |

On the greeble front, it's definitely something to work on in general. Most people think you can just ramp up the detail and it will work, but poorly scaled greebles and inconsistent detail levels can definitely ruin a good model. | |

| Yeah, greebling is defiantly a fine line that must be kept an eye on. Im going to not spend so much time on greebles, simply because i don't want to waste my time on work that won't be seen. Well, i found out how to make wires and pipes with splines finaly. ![]() I'm trying now to get the mess of lines at the head of the chair to turn into something interesting looking. Edit- Im most likely not going to go with the piping near the head, but instead articulated feelers. It'll better serve as a base for the holo projectors |

| Thats really cool. I might recommend some more edge loops on those pipe corners though. |
