| As the challenge's deadline is drawing closer and closer - June 29th, midnight CST (that's GMT-6) - you may now submit your final entry in this thread. Please post
It is not necessary to post your sketch here but we will look for one in your wip thread. This is not a discussion thread. Please do post your submission only. Posts that are commenting on other peoples work will be deleted without prior warning. Clarification: It is possible that this thread will not be closed at exactly midnight tonight. Submissions are possible and valid as long as this thread is open. We will not look at the timestamp of your post here. But of course try to submit everything before midnight CST - when the thread is closed it is closed and there won't be no entries after that. |

| SFM Obsessed | Spud's chair entry As I'm not around much for the rest of the week, this chair is my entry. The chair was designed around maximum comfort and so is fully adjustable. The back and seat provide a full range of motion from standing to fully reclined. The arms can be moved out of the way and angled, raised and lowered as required. The screen is controlled by the arm rest consoles and is fully configurable. In the image it is show in a simple three window configuration, but can be set to allow 3d manipulation of multiple windows of varying size, or the whole area can be used as a single large screen, or can be left completely clear if the chair is seated in a position where a larger view screen is required behind the built-in screen WIP Thread |

| A Chair For All Species There are 258 member planets in the alliance, with approximately 312 known races. In order to accommodate the different physiologies of the alliance crews, a chair was needed that could reconfigure itself to match its user (no matter what shape they might be). Its composed of 32 independent movable sections, which are held in place by Mk 5 force beams. Everything is fully configurable to not only species, but also to posture. The cushions have a limited ability to alter there shape. This was a required feature in order to accommodate species of a semi-liquid nature as well as the plant-like races from the galactic fringe. The control sphere houses a passive medical scanner as well as a holographic projector. WIP Thread ![]() Had a lot of fun with this one, learned a few new things about my renderer, how to configure complex materials as well as other ways of increasing the output quality. |

| SFM Nugget | The Multi-Purpose, Rotate & Swivel Monitor Chair has no primary function to speak of. It's design allows for any array of information to be shown on the number of screens it has available. They can be configured to show the entire Engineering display screens, Stellar Cartography information, Bridge functions or a combination of all of them and more. The Seat Padding is made of Memory Gel with a synthetic leather finish, ultimate comfort and body conforming properties allow the user to concentrate on their jobs at hand rather than that niggling pain in their lower spine at that crucial moment. It also has sleek yet comfotable armrests that can be lowered or raised at the users whim allowing for easier access to the seat itself. Also a major underuse of a chair is dealt with by this design, and that is the lack of foot functionality available in the majority of chairs out there. To include extra functions for the user this chair is designed with Foot pedals which are also prgrammable. They can be used to rotate the chair or if a staionary chair is more preferrable, the right pedal, for example, could be configured to change the screens from an Engineering view to a Command view in an instant (very usefull when crews are injured during battle) and the left could be assigned to a similar function. WIP Thread ![]() I gave myself a lot of headaches with this challenge. I had to learn a few new tricks in C4D to get it to turn out as close to the vision in my head as I could. But the major problem facing me is that texturing has never been my strongpoint but I've had plenty of practice over the course of this challenge (especially with the display screens) and I think I'm getting there, no where near the quality of the majority of this community but you gotta start somewhere. |

| This chair was designed for a near future ship, specifically my destroyer. The ship has a crew of only 6 so any given member has many jobs to do. Each chair has the ability to control all the systems on the ship. The habitat module is located on the end of a spinning arm to simulate around 0.3 g or so. The chairs are located in the center of the habitat module in a well shielded room. Access would be through the ceiling and floor by ladder (not shown). Each chair has a small life support system as well as a connection to the main ship's system. This is to protect from decompression. The screens and control panel can be customized to suit the users preferences and current jobs. The screens swivel to the side to allow access to the seat. WIP Thread As for learning stuff I have a tendency to leave projects half finished (in my defense it is often out of my control). While I was busy towards the end this did get to a fair level of completion. I also did a lot of work on textures, which is something I need a lot of work on (though they didn't end up as exceptional I'm pleased with them). I use Max4 so stability was an issue, kept crashing when ever I would change smoothing groups and corrupt the files, but this mean I rebuilt most of the chair at least twice so in the end it resulted in a better model. |

| Fighter chair This chair functions as a fighter chair and is a smart, reliable and safe product. It's totally adjustable and configurable in every way. ACFC -564 Aerospace Combat Fighting Concept. A comfortable pilot station packed with all our latest technology gives the pilot a huge advantage and superiority in close combat, escorting missions, patrol etc. Some of the features: - Multiple touchscreens. - Helmet-climate-enviroment (HCE) integrated in the chair itself. - Fully adjustable seating and operation concole. ------------ This was my first attempt at a sensei challenge and at first I had a concept that I thought would look good modeled but that changed and I went along another way with the design, and I think it turned out well. I've learned alot during this.. Making something in 3d from just someones instructions and thereafter sketch it. Then building the whole thing in 3d and finally presenting the "product". I'm very glad I entered this since I've learned so much. WIP Thread |

Blog Entries: 2 | The Organochair. This chair grows out of a living starship and is a direct interface with the human pilot. I learnt a lot about translucent materials making this, and also mixing and blending various procedurals to make a non repeating pattern for a skin material. ![]() WIP |

| WIP-Thread Story: Thusands of Years ago, the People of the Khorin vanished from space during the last great War of the Gods. Now, the People of the Kimera honors there Legacy. Most of the Khorin Starships where controlled by connection in Astral-space, some may say 'magic'. The Starship was directly connected to the navigators mind, even if still there were Displays and tradition controls, many things where simply commanded by thoughts. Due to the fact, that only a small amound of Kimera is even capable of magic, they mimic the controls of the Khorin a different way. The Navigator is floating in an Anti-Gravity environment while connected to the ships computer via cables, pluged in neuro-pathways within the neck. Through this, the Navigator can Control the holographic interface by thought. Within the entire Ring, he/she may display every hologram he wants. It's even possible to overlay a sphere of the Stars and outer Cameras over the Real bridge, half-transparent so the Navigator not goes nuts/lost in it. The Chair is made for Navigation & Sensors. Normal and Hyperspace travel. Only in rare situations it controls Weapons as well. lessons learned: This was the first time i used transparent textures as well as depth of field / blur in blender. Still i have to learn more with Lights and Materials, two of the most important thinks in a good render. a sketch is very useful in writing down ideas the fast way. But i prefer to do a fast-done 3d-Concept. As seen in the Hex-Throne WIP (a very nice idea) the Concept does not have to be overpowered by Details or mechanic-parts. Reflections / Mirror-effects make a scene much more realistic, even on parts where i wouldn't expect having reflections. |

| WIP Thread Instituted early 1984, the monitoring agency had but one task... to monitor. And the lucky few who managed to kick and stab their way to this position realized that not only could they monitor the lives of others, but directly change them, for better or for worse. The BB's rule has lasted for 97 years, and the monitoring agency still continues. Yet there are some whom say that it has changed. There are some that even question if BB is even alive, or if he was ever alive. May this rare photo of a modern monitor chair shed some insight into your cold grey lives. ![]() --- BB watches. ![]() --- This challenge was quite fun, and while I didn't learn much to be completely honest (I know how to model pipes now...wooo)... I managed to complete an 'asset' within a deadline. Altho we were not going for low poly, I attempted to keep my tris under control, mainly because my computer would not like me all that much if I started to throw around too many. I look forward to further challenges. |
