Two weeks is theoretically enough. Like some members stated, tho, it's summer, some have exams, some are tired of work and eager to go to holidays.. My situation is; finishing an extra big work assignment and looking forward to holidays. I'd love to participate but I still don't have the time. A larger time period would enable people to join in later and still have the time to produce something good. Like this, if I find the time to start 5 days before the end, I probably won't bother at all. Just sayin'.. seems to me 3 weeks would be more flexible as people's timetables don't revolve around SFM.

We usually don't allow this - if we did, it increases the chances of someone winning simply because of quantity, not quality.

I have to concur on the 2-week deadline issue. I was kinda eager to finally join a challenge after more than 5 years membership at SFM but due to a hectic schedule i kinda stumbled on the challenge just now (even though i had posted in the announcement thread several weeks ago). Personally I feel like a month would be a realistic schedule, that includes 3-4 weekends depending on how you count. Seriously guys, most people do have quite a busy professional life and several social obligations. Since the challenge is almost halfway now I guess I'll pass... too bad

Odd...our claims of that affliction seem to be totally ignored when people demand to know what the sensei's are doing... These are challenges people, not contests. I've always run these as two weeks, and won't be changing them other than for specials. Remember that the last challenge (not run by myself) was only 10 days, so frankly, we are actually back to normal on time limits. I must totally exclude the argument that if people see the challenge late, they should have more time to enter. I mean, what actually does that comment mean? That if they come in half way through the two weeks we should make it a three week challenge? What if people come in at two weeks, and only only have a week left? Same thing - the length in these cases is irrelevant. We also advertise the challenges at least a week in advance, so the majority of people have a good chance to see that something is coming along. To be fair to everybody, a strict two week time limit on standard challenges is going to always be enforced if I'm running them. All of the challenges that I put together are actually very straight forward, and are not huge, over the top competitions. These are designed to stretch you - if you don't want to be stretched, then 'challenges' are probably not your best option. They are not, and never were designed to be soft-options were entrants can do what they want - thats what the normal 3D forums are for. Each challenge has a set of requirements to be fulfilled - the time limit is just one of them.

Nope, I'm not going to be strict. As long as your entry is in place for me getting up on Sunday morning (GMT) when I close the challenge, then I'll allow it without question.

I cant believe all this nagging about the 2 weeks. Either youre in or out. They have always had them for 2 weeks. I think its enough, I mean, it is a challenge not a contest. Its just for fun. But I guess its always gonna be 2 sides on this, 1)the one side that claims they cant be in beacause of different reasons, and 2)the other that says its fine with 2 weeks. For example, I'm not that good at 3d modelling and texturing, should I go over from the side I'm on now ( I'm on #2) to the other side just because I cant do this stuff so good and need more time? Nope, never. I take the 2 weeks and try to get something together and hopefully learn something.
