Challenge #8 - Blade - Airlock/docking port

1) Damn you bastards for tricking me into modeling instead of working, or rather sleeping, since i'm gonna have to work anyway

2) I'll up the sketches once i can be arsed to shoot 'em, but they are done.

3) 'ere ya go. Going for a sort of functional style rather than extremely original or weirdish. Airlock is hidden behind armour hatch during normal flight, opens to reveal an extending, fully sealed docking arm, full length from inner door to docking ring is about 18m, and the minimum open intersection is about 2x2m in order to facilitate transfer of smallish cargo etc. The extending thingies on the sides are pretty much bumpers, they'll also incorporate some sort of locking mechanism. Haven't touched the interior other than the walkway, which slides on top of itself as the arm collapses.

Most of it's a bit rough for my taste, but i think i'll keep it pretty low poly, sorta working off a laptop here. Plus i really wouldn't mind being able to actually use it on a shippie some day.

Right, poly count clocks in at just about 10k atm.

It might be "sort of functional style" but nevertheless it's still kinda original for an airlock. I mean you can see such tunnels on your average airport, But I never saw it on an starship. I really like it, tho' not sure bout the bumpers, but I guess once you add some of the planned locks on it it'll be fine... Looking forward to some updates here!

Hmm, didn't really think of the airport gate resemblance until you mentioned it. Ah well. For the record, I'm not really sold on the bumpers either yet, but i do like the idea of having something like them, for those rough 'oops the finely tuned and highly advanced manoeuvering systems went black' moments or the likes.

G: ass.

Anyway, long bloody day (didn't get home from the office until just over an hour ago), so not much done, just some rough work on the inner lock and corridor.. Figure an airlock like this is a weak spot and the arm would be rather vulnerable, hence the innermost fat-ass motherf-er of a blast door.

Also tweaked the actual arm, mainly length wise, between posting and crashing yesterday, so now it actually collapses enough to fit under the hatch.
