City is for an online group I started, used to run, still lives, and still running strong. Its inspired off of Caprica, Dubai, and Philadelphia. (Odd Mix) Here are shots of its Progress. Its maybe at 15% now? Still got alot to do and alot to add. I've been working on this for about a month and will show you its overall progress and evolution.

First I started by making a basic zone using a high res satellite photo of the Philadelphia metro area

Then I began to build on the river front.

The first Skyscraper

And then it grew...

Then one day I had alot of time and energy...

Before I began to do UV work on the main towers (Which Im still new at) I changed their clunky designs.

And finally the first building was lit just before sunset, The Zammy tower.

The behemoth Memorial Spire shortly followed afterwards

Night has fallen and the Ventrelli, and Rasei Center was completed, I began to experiment with strobe lights

Later on, to accomidate the streets being UV'ed in, I re arranged all the buildings.

And where we are now, Currently working on the streets before I texture the rest of the buildings and add more in.

Enjoy

Hi everyone,

I'm now involved with a new web series that will revive the old Lost in Space franchise. This means that we needed to create a "new" Jupiter 2 that makes some sort of sense. Those of you familiar with the original know quite well that the ship as designed could never house the two decks shown in the TV show.

The original ship was only 52 feet in diameter (depending on who you talk to). This worked with the early concept shown in the pilot episode in which the ship had only one deck. But since the broadcasted show firmly established the two-story version but never bothered to re-work the exterior of the ship to reconcile the change, I had to go back and re-visit everything about the craft in an attempt to "make it work."

Rather than play the game the movie did and completely toss out the original design, we decided that the ship is so iconic that we wanted to preserve the proportions of Robert Kino****a's original design. (edit: Robert KinoSHEETA - LOL to the language filter!)

After a lot of experimentation, I settled on a new diameter of 98'-4". While this may seem arbitrary, it actually results from careful studies of the landing gear and lower deck, which I'll go into more detail in succeeding posts. A smaller diameter can work, but it means drastically altering the lower level to accommodate the landing gear structures.

Anyhow, here's a quick shot of the lower hull section, with a figure for scale...

Here are the new Enterprise and the Kelvin - both IŽm sure pretty familiar. Finally youŽll also see the starbase that a fellow artist built for this one shot. It was also a pleasure to animate both pictures for Doug Drexlers video blog on startrek.com. Make sure to check it out!

Hope you like them...

BTW - please buy your copy of the calendar, so we might get a chance to make some more cool pictures next year :)

MODS: Not sure where to put this, so feel free to move it somewhere appropriate.

Many moons ago I started an old topic here regarding the Homeworld 2 ship models. Some of you might remember a guy called Fabio first produced these models, converted out of the original Relic Game, as a set of ZIP'd Lightwave files. My intention back then was to convert them all over to Max format. I began, but the task soon became way too daunting, so I faltered and... well, the usual.

Since then I have received, via these forums, many requests for the model files. I never did convert all the files to Max, but I do retain all of Fabio's ZIP files, and more importantly the actual game and all the necessary tools and utilities to extract and convert the game files to OBJ format, as well as all textures to DDS and/or BMP format, so I can produce a 'clean' extraction of every single model file in the game. Luckily, I'm still on WinXP and everything works fine for me - I understand there are 'issues' attempting this on a Win7/Vista rig.

Is there any interest for these models? I ask, as it seems to me the best way to approach this, given that SFM's users are spread over a wide variety of 3D apps, is for me to simply produce a compete set of OBJ ship files, with textures as BMP format. That way, the maximum number of interested parties can take the files and use them, rather than face exclusion due to possibly not having the right app.

Do let me know if this seems like something you'd be interested in. I'd also need some kind soul to provide permanent web space to host the extractions for everyone to collect them from.

Once I know there's some interest for this I'm more than happy to set about putting together a complete, definitive Homeworld2 mesh collection (in .obj format) that hopefully will be usable by everyone, regardless of choice of 3D platform. I could begin with a test model, to make sure everyone is happy with the formatting and file types, etc.

Peace.

I've been using Google Sketchup, on and off, for about 5 years now and never got round to moving on to any of the more conventional modelling programmes, I tried learning Blender maybe two or three times before each time giving up.

Over the past week, though, it's finally stuck :)

I've been tinkering around a bit, learning how to model particular shapes, but this is the first Blender file I've actually saved; it's a ship based on those found in a small, online space combat game called DarkSpace.

Here's a selection of renders as I've been going along, I've been making moderate changes to the design on the way.

Be glad to know what you guys think :)

As part of the angelcore branch i've decided to work now on a thor class battleship and its weaponry i started working on a design for the battleship but somehow ended up with a gun barrel lol so about 20 minutes after making the start of a ship i ended up with a gun barrel for a turret which then appeared about 5 hours later

the gun itself is almost completed minus a few external details and its interior

the bay on the other hand is going thorugh changes every time i get a new idea for the design of the ship

let me know what you think guys

for those of you that might wonder the model in the pictures has 18,744 polys or 36,823 tri's
