BSG-23 Video iPod Series

Actually I'm surprised how much has been done in the past two weeks. We have about 8 minutes of Animation rendered in 1080 HDTV and being cut in FCP.

We owe a lot of that to Dual Core iMacs and Blender's fast internal rendering engine. Right now we are working on the "Battle of Picon" sequence. Anyone with Blender is free to pitch in a scene. You don't have to render it, just animate it. We'll take care of the rendering end of things with BlenderXgrid and Respower.

As it stands right now, we should be finished with scenes and renders by the end of Feb. Then we'll recording voice tracks and doing the cuts in March, April is post production. May is pick up month to add any scenes we need etc. June is final production and July is the release date for series 1.

Series 2 is on the drawing board as we work on creating 3D CGI characters and explore switching rendering engines from Blender Internal to Aqusis. Series 2 will be made available Summer 2008.

Nothing that is polished yet. Meaning I've sat down and run it through Effects Lab to add effects. So there are models that randomly leave the scene. The BSG Jump sequence will be added in post production.

I have a wedding to shoot this weekend, so I'll try to get into iMovie next week and create a new trailer. My Quadcore G5's going to be occupied editing that project so I'll have to do something on one of my other macs.

Currently we're using the conversions of Coxxen's low poly models for the most part.

Website hosting the project will be Blender Galactica.

I'm offering as many of the models as I can for download.

I do have some frame captures:

Why do you have engine glow in the center projection thing on the Mercury?

I have no idea. I didn't do those scenes. My guess is that there is something on the model/texture or some ref pic somewhere that shows the glow.

Also, these are from various stages of trail and error. Hence some of the funky starfields.

Opening sequence pre-post production. There is still the background plates to insert in the "present day" shot, so things won't look quite as dark when there is a planet to backlight against in the BG.

Rendered in 1920x1080, but reduced for internet.

Open will be "First Cylon War" and flashing into the "Battle of Picon". Everything so far is rendered 100% in blender, no post.
