The Joker is Me

I've been working on a project with a friend for the last year and a half, its a celebration of his life (21 years) in the form of a parody of every TV show/movie/book/genre he loves the most. We've finished filming and are about halfway through post production now, to the point where we've released three sneak peeks and a teaser trailer of what the movie's about.

Basically my friend (Timothy Ross) plays 12 roles in the movie, ranging from a deranged Admiral to James Bond and his arch nemesis Malcolm Pryce (Emperor Palpatine), in an attempt to defeat a conspiracy to overthrow the commonwealth of Australia.

The project is heavily influenced by Star Trek, Star Wars, Tron, Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, James Bond (obviously), Sin City, Austin Powers, Are you Being Served, Kath and Kim, Mission Impossible and a whole bunch more. Now you may think it's an aweful fan movie that's got low production values and has aweful looking actors. Most of the actors and actresses in this movie are actually professional stage actors and actresses or those who are studying drama at University and we're working very hard on the effects to make it look like it belongs on TV or a Movie screen.

Sneak Peek 1:
This was our first VFX test, we composited two characters literally transporting to a Baptist church, everything was shot on site with no greenscreen involved.

Sneak Peek 2:
Full green screen shots with compositing and music

Sneak Peek 3:
Our first fully completed scene. This one has it all, bits flickering in the background, SFX, CGI, composites, the works. Our proudest scene at the moment.

Teaser Trailer:
Self explanatory, really.

I do cameo in the movie once (I'm not an actor), as the guy in the red shirt with a catholic priest's jacket in the second Sneak Peek. Look for the guy with the messy hair.

And for those who are interested, all our composites are done in post production on a green screen and all the CGI and VFX are done with Lightwave 8.5. (I'm paticularly proud of the sets, they're my first try making a full fledged project in lightwave, modelling wise. Textures are awful naturally, cause i can't use photoshop and only have a passing familiarity with proceedurals, but i think they look OK).

We have a myspace.com account in the films section for TJIM that has production photos and videos:

I'm looking for suggestions, comments and criticisms of the CG or any other effects work.

</shameless plug>

Cheers.

The clips aren't so bad. The CG backgrounds are a little obvious but I like them. Cool job

Don't sweat the lack of posts versus the views. People who actively participate in the site are the minority. Lurkers are all over the place. Don't take it personally.

yup, that's exactly what i plan for. That model for the "Quartermaster" lab was 60,000 polygons by itself, which is the same for most of them (there are no props inside any of the rooms except for that table), so i think modelling and detail, i have a decent grasp of.

When this project is finished, i'm intending to learn and practice texturing properly, from Photoshop to learning how to apply proceedurals and gradients to better effect.

What's really letting them down is the lack of detail texturewise (most of the textures are proceedurals, some are lw presets). I've got a handle on lighting, i just need to tweak that a bit though and actually figure out my lighting setup before i build the rooms, next time, lol.

Hey Hey everyone. It's finally finished. After 2.5 years of slaving away over lightwave, after effects and premiere the movie is done.

You can watch the whole thing at myspace.com/thejokerisme

Enjoy!
