| What's the best way to recruit for a fan film? I'd like to start meeting people locally to me to begin discussing making a Star Trek fan film. What are the best websites to advertise on, and how should I organize it? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

| find a local fan club and start from there. The few fan films out of a million that hve been planned for trek, which were sucessful, all came out of official fan clubs. |
| Current WIPS: None 'cause I'm a lazy bastard. "With 5,000,000 models being destroyed a week, who's going to miss another one?" | |

| SFM Nugget | Personally, I would start out online, since then you don't even have to be in the same country to find people that might be interested. While it's ideal to have a local team that can tackle the actual filming of the movie, there are a lot of things that you could do to get started just by going online to Trek themed message boards and opening up a dialog with the members there. I'm in a similar position of creating an online series, (non-trek) and so far none of the people that have agreed to come on board and help even live in the same state. I just had someone today express interest in helping who is from the UK. My point is that, in the very early stages of pre-production which you seem to be in, getting the basic idea out there-writing and conceptualizing what sort of art/medium you're going to work in, you don't need to know anyone locally, unless you just as a bonus want to meet other Trek fans that live in you area. At the very least you need to get an idea together, form a story, and write a script before you proceed any further; that is if you haven't already done those things. The internet, for all it's baggage is a great place to meet people that you would otherwise never come across in real life. Use it like the tool it is and seek out anyone that might be interested through Trek themed message boards. As to how to organize it, assuming that you do find people online that are willing to help you, set it up as two groups. You're creative people that might be people you know locally though may also be people you never actually meet...and you're actual physical production team that will handle everything from casting to actually filming your movie. The two groups don't ever have to actually meet, though you'll need to control both...it can be easier though if you have a friend or someone you trust that can handle the creative aspect of the project while you tackle the production aspects of the film. Perhaps someone who isn't completely in control of the whole project, but could step in, in your absence...an co-producer so to speak. As to where you might seek out help online...be careful in this regard. Some message boards frown on new members who basically join only to ask for help or advertise some sort of project. In this instance, it's better to start out at places where you're already a member and know a few people...unless they have a special forum for recruiting people like scifi-meshes does here. Keeping that in mind, the best places to look would be the big trek message boards like Trek BBS, or Trekcore. |
