finally we have moved onto compositing, but due to some screw ups we wont have the finished product ready by Friday.. but it will be hitting a cinema screen on the 23rd of november... cool huh :P

just a bit of the comp work ive been doing.

1. Original render by luke, light and originally altered by him

2. Kira with hud glow placed into the shot (notice it doesn't quite fit? :P)

3. de-opaqued the cockpit and blurred the reflection slightly

4. Darkened and blurred parts of the cockpit to give it a bit more depth, added brushed look to the chair.

5. Darkened the cockpit, gave kira a shadow on the chair, and also created shading on the back of her helmet and body.

6. Added hud glow to chair, also darked the chair a bit, and sea background.

7. lastly applied the front part of the canopy and added specular for it.

you said it's glow from the HUD, but to me it seems like light bounce from a greenscreen
maybe change the hud glow to red to avoid this misconception?
other than that it looks great
keep it up, can't wait to see more

backstept: Their greenscreen is very well set up, they have practically no spillage that can't be picked up by a simple spill killer or matte choker in after effects. I think it needs to be green since it's modelled after standard aircraft HUDs from present day and that which have already been shown in seaquest DSV.

Current WIPS: None 'cause I'm a lazy bastard.

Nads is correct in this assumption, the green screen we used was well lit and the background was almost perfectly separated from the foreground. The HUD glow was added by masking a bright green solid over the plate.

The reflections seem a little strange, especially with no reflection of the pilot in there.

The HUD glow seems more trouble than its worth, would something as matt black as that tube even pick up a glow?

And like backstep said, the average Joe in the street is just going to assume its lightspill anyway.

The reflection is currently being fixed at the moment as well as the glass, thankfully its a locked off shot so i have some play with the various plates. And ultimately the director has had the final say the the glow stays.

I'm sure when it's animated with a flicker or the like, it wont look so much like spillage. Although I would suggest making it more flurescant green and less dull.
