"'Sadistic' video game is banned" [in Britain]

full story here:

'Sadistic' video game is banned | Metro.co.uk

Quote:
A sequel to violent video game Manhunt has been banned in Britain, it was announced today.

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rejected Manhunt 2 on the grounds of its "casual sadism" and "unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying".

The game "constantly encourages visceral killing", it said.

The BBFC's ruling means the game cannot be legally supplied anywhere in the UK.

It is the first video game to be refused a classification since 1997.

David Cooke, director of the BBFC, said: "Rejecting a work is a very serious action and one which we do not take lightly. Where possible we try to consider cuts or, in the case of games, modifications which remove the material which contravenes the Board's published guidelines.

"In the case of Manhunt 2, this has not been possible.
I'm a little surprised that - by the way things are going - they haven't done that with the GTA games by now

I have to agree with it actually since on the WII you have to actually carry out the motions.... I mean Game designers need to think about the level of violence that a game portrays

'Could we have some Decorum here, or are you running a Pirate Ship' - Gaius Baltar
'Just a Battlestar, Sir.' - Starbuck
'Don't dare to be different, Dare to be Original'

Manhunt is a game whose sole purpose it is, not to kill peopel, but to kill them as violently and gory as possible. you're sole purpose in the game is to inflict pain and torture people.

It's possibly the single game that deserves to be banned and I wouldn't argue it.

Actually it's a great game. You don't exactly kill innocent people, even if you did it would still be a cool game. About time they came out with part two. better be better than The Suffering 2, that game was no where nere as good as the first one.

You can't have manslaughter without laughter.
