ALERT: READ THIS IF YOU INSTALLED TRINITY BEFORE 4 A.M. GMT
If you have Windows AND upgraded EVE Online: Trinity Classic before 4 A.M. GMT to Premium using the content upgrade path then you MUST read this before doing anything else.

1. PLEASE DO NOT REBOOT YOUR COMPUTER
2. Check the root directory of your hard drive and see if you have a boot.ini file. Boot.ini file is normally hidden so you need to click Tools : Folder Options : View and select "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" to be able to see it. You can also check for the presence of this file by clicking Start : Control Panel : System : Advanced : Startup and Recovery : Settings (third button down). Windows will alert you if the boot.ini file is missing.
3. If boot.ini is still there then you are not affected and do not have to take any further steps.
4. If boot.ini is NOT there then please click here: FORUM LINK

We have removed the faulty updater so anyone installing the Trinity Expansion now will not be effected.

A new updater will be available shortly.

We apologize profusely for this error and are working on offering more extensive help those that have a non-working Windows PC, so please stay tuned.
I'll sticky this for a while since apparently we have a lot of Eve players around here.

I definitely installed before 4 AM GMT (what's that like 11PM EST?)
and I definitely run XP, so I'm pretty sure I'm affected, but I thankfully didn't shutdown last night, and it's still running now . . .
boy oh boy I can't wait to get home and check, the suspense is killing me!

it just occurred to me that I installed EVE on my D: drive so I should hopefully be unaffected

but for the many others who got screwed CCP had better offer a month or two free or something . . . anything!
screwups of this kind aren't just fixed by 'oops sorry'
they've got to make sure that they don't lose customers over this, and they will, but they have to at least do something other than showing people how to fix it.

An installer so messed up it deletes boot.ini? Sheesh, I've been PC gaming for a long time, and I've seen some weird glitches, but that is hands down the worst bug I've come across. What's for their next expansion, wiping out your hard drive partition? Or maybe just nuke win.ini and io.sys?

not the worst... the worst would be the installer that deleted your entire c drive

There have been several installers with delete bugs either deleting entire disks, or important sub folders, so this one ranks fairly low there.

I wonder what sort of backwards routing they used for finding the boot.ini file for the game to make it mistake the system boot ini. afterall, you've allready told the installer where the game is.

Hold on a sec, I don't think it's the C: root directory that's at risk. This is the announcement from CCP:

Those that meet ALL of the following criteria need to read the Update Fix Instructions and should NOT reboot their PC:

You started downloading the upgrade from Trinity Classic Graphics Content to Premium Graphics Content BEFORE 04:00 GMT on Dec 6
1 You must be using a version of Windows other than Vista.
2 You must have Windows installed not on the primary partition.
3 You must have at least 2 hard disks and the OS must be installed not on the primary, but the secondary hard disk
If all these apply, you MAY be affected by a known problem with the Graphics Update system.
Emphasis added by me.

There are lots of folks who meet the first criteria, but the second? How many have Windows on a secondary partition? I'd say the most likely people would be Intel-based OS X users or Linux users who have multi-boot configurations with XP in the second partition. That's a pretty small number of people in the computer-using population as a whole, and I'd imagine a correspondingly small number of people within the Eve user base. And how many of those people have Windows installed on not only a partition other than the primary but a drive other than the primary drive?

Still a weird bug, but not as lethal as I thought at first.
