Sins of a Solar Empire

If you don't know a thing about this game then you are missing an amazing strategic game.

I've just tried it at some friend's place and I must say that I loved every bit of it.
It's a blend between an RTS game with 4X like the Master of Orion series. In difference to Sword of the Stars which tried a similar blend, Sins is more like a Real Time 4X game. You manage your space empire and have to colonize planets, develop them, get resources, build your fleet and engage the enemy empires.
It's a lot of fun, a pity that it doesn't have a story mode, but of course its strong point is in the multiplayer aspect.

If you want to know more about it you can visit its home page.

I highly recommend it, not only to support this semi-small developers who takes some risks and produce more original games that another WW2 shooter, but also because it's a great and fun game. And I'm saying that by just playing a small game of three hours.

The Battlestar Galactica was never stripped of its armor.

Just waiting for the site to load is giving me a bad feeling....

Well it doesn't look that visually original as you can see ideas from other games scattered though out. But how is it balanced? Does it have land attacks as well??

Sometimes the worst opponent is the one closest, yet ignorant of the truth.

No land attacks, but it's very well balanced. The only problem is the sides are pretty similar in ships. There are differences in weapon type and abilities, but they have the same roles.

Personally I love the TEC. Massive economy overrun for the WIN. I can support two separate fleets (with associated cap ships), max upkeep and STILL drop 30,000 on bounties every 15 minutes.

Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

Honestly?

I loaded it up. went through the tutorials, and got a nagging feeling "Hey, this feels awfully, familiar."

After doing those and playing a game for a while, that feeling kept [popping into my head. With a name though. "Pax Imperia : Immanent Domain".

This game is pretty, but on almost every basic functional level, it;s been done before, in some cases better (Planetary management and research especially), more than ten years past.

I uninstalled it almost 4 hours to the moment after I finished installing it.

In all honesty, Sins seems to be a game that will benefit greatly from an expansion or GalCivII-like free content updates. The game is very cool. The graphics are impressive (not ground breaking, but they certainly look nice) and yet the game plays on low spec systems. It just feels like it is missing something...I played through about 4 or 5 mid-sized games (for those who haven't played it, Sins can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 30 hours depending on the size of your galaxy...It can be HUGE...) and found myself thinking "wait...That's it? What about X and Y" etc...There is an incredibly impressive core game here, I just feel that like C&C Generals a few years back, this game will really come into it's own when more content is added to it.

Well until that happens you and others will just have to make do with the thriving MOD community.

With MOD's like this on the horizon....
Legend of the Galactic Heroes mod for Sins of a Solar Empire - Mod DB

Sometimes the worst opponent is the one closest, yet ignorant of the truth.
