my dad works at our local NBC affiliate and every year he does some really silly april fools emails. one year it was uneven wear on mice, so people should switch their mouse to the other side

Recently we’ve noticed an alarming trend – our servers are running out of the number three. It may come as a surprise to some people that with a business our size (over 4 servers and more than thirty workstations), Microsoft requires us to buy our letters and numbers in bulk using a special “anticipatory usage” plan. We do our best to predict how much of each letter and number will be required, and purchase accordingly.

Microsoft’s anticipatory usage plan renews each April 1st, but technical problems with our Internet connection have prevented completion of the massive download during the last few days. The result: certain numbers and letters are in short supply – most notably the number three. This is likely because of our channel number being three, as well as having the number three in our street address, twice in the zip code, in our area code and in our cell phone numbers. Temperatures have also been in the thirties recently, so the Weather Department has been using up threes faster than usual.

You will notice that I have edited my e-mail signature below to avoid using the numeral three. Until we complete the download of our new supply of letters and numbers, please reserve use of the actual numeric digit “three” for important correspondence with the Corporate office, for legal papers, and other important documents where accuracy and clarity are important. If it helps you remember, you can tape a thumbtack to the “three” keys on your keyboard, with the point facing up.

If everyone works together, we can work through this crisis and have enough threes to go around until the new supply is downloaded.
