Eragon Movie Reactions...

Sooooo.....

It was okay. Some parts I thought were really good, like the Eragon-Saphira-Brom relationships. I liked those. Some parts I DESPISED, like Arya actually flirting with Eragon, the PG rating, rushed story, and Star Wars Episode One syndrome. This movie leaves much to be desired, but they left it open to improvement for the next two.

Oh yeah....there were no races...WTF?

The "dwarves" were as tall as everyone else, the "elves" hardly had pointed ears or any other notion of 'elf-ness', and the "Urgals" were fat and bald bikers instead of Orc-like creatures. I understand that they wanted to separate this from The Lord of the Rings (because all "Inheritance" is is Star Wars through the eyes of Tolkien) but that's kind of like the drag queen in the corner of the room pretending that he isn't a drag queen by making his voice deeper. Honestly.

This seemed only to be a Hollywood ploy to make the most money as fast as possible by preying on children who like fast colorful things. (Shocker, huh?)

Anyone else see it and would like to elaborate more?

Jack O'Neill: Ba'al, come on. You should know. Of course, I dare mock you.

I saw it last night, really enjoyed it. But i did notice what you mean that nothing was as described in the book which I read a couple of weeks ago. They left out some fairly significant bits of story. I hope they make more of the second book into a film.

It was still an excellent film.

I read the local review on it and it only got 2 stars(outta 5, SW:RoTS only got 3.5) and both were hard earned the way the reviewer panned the movie. He's jaded I'd guess, but after reading some it I'm glad I stayed away from the books and will stay away from the movie(s) also.

Even though I'm a fantasy fan, I've never heard of the books until this movie, and frankly it just looks too generic for me. I'll wait for Hollywood to butcher the "Dragonriders of Pern" series!

Keep up with me at my BLOG

WAY AGREED!

Everytime I see 'Dragonrider' I automatically think of McCaffie's SF books.

I haven't seen the movie, but I've read both of the first two books, and while they were admittedly written with children or at least young adults in mind I did enjoy them. I haven't gone to the movie because I was in a book store a while back and I noticed that Eragon was in paperback and with a different cover so i looked through it. The paperback included pictures from the movie and I could tell then that they had butchered it (reasons as noted by Ainur above) so I imagine I'll pass on them or if I do watch them it will be with my nephew.

Well I kinda digged it, I never read the books but I agree that I'm anxious to see the Pern books come to life. I guess because those are, basicly, a blend of fantasy and scifi...

I saw it. I loved it.

. . . and you're thinking "WHY!?" because of the fact that they tossed out half of the story, changed key plot points, etc.

I thought the movie was great on its own. if it wasn't a book first it would be perfectly fine, but the book was so much better, that it's almost like the two are unrelated.

some problems I have with the movie:
SPOILERS BELOW

1. Saphira grew up in 5 minutes. WTF! in the book she grew up over the course of a couple months.
2. Garrow's death. In the book the whole house was destroyed, and he was barely alive. In the movie he was just on the floor and Brom torched the place.
3. Angela was in Daret!? I mean come on!
4. In the book Arya never spoke to Eragon until they were in Farthen Dur. She was all flirty with him in the movie.
5. The races in the movie were less defined.
6. No Solembum he was an interesting fellow in the book.
7. The Urgals! fat biker dudes! in the book they seemed more like Minotaurs with more humanoid faces or whatever.
8. Galbatorix . . . he was only spoken of in the book, but we saw him alot in the movie, and he didn't seem too evil.

some things that were great from the movie
1. Saphira looked great!
2. Arya looked great!
3. Zar'roc was a sweet sword.
4. Jeremy Irons rules
5. Ed Speleers did a good job as Eragon. (his first movie if I recall)
6. Shruikan was freakin' awesome if only seen for a second at the end

all in all it's a great family film, but no where near as good as the book, though the book was obviously inspired by other works of fantasy

It's scifi at it's core. Some people just can't get past the "dragons are fantasy only" part.

Either it looks like HW doesn't want to make beautiful looking dragons. Only 'realist' ones. :/
