| Know any famous glamour photographers? OK, I know that there are photgraphers on site, so here is a quick question to see if I'm banging my head against a wall, or really have come across an observation that I can use. I'm currently doing a photography assignment and as part of the research I've put together quite a presentation piece. In it, I've got some good comparrisons of 'portrait' and 'glamour' photography and how the edges blur. In all of the articles that I've found on 'portrait', I've got loads of references to famous photographers. On looking through all the equivalent contemporary articles on glamour, I've not found one. Nothing. Nada. Took a look at the Wikipedia entry on 'famous' photographers, and there was not even an entry in the key for 'glamour' (also taking into account that each photographer could have several references beside their name), despite there being a distinct link to the 'glamour' entry. It seemed to me therefore, that the time of having a distinctively famous glamour photographer (of say the 1970's and 80's) is long gone and the famous glamour photographers of today are all pretty much on an even par and nobody really gets their name shouted out. Because of of magazines like Maxim and FHM, the names of the models are now far more important So here's the question - can anyone give me the name of a famous glamour photographer? One that sticks out above the rest? (and by 'glamour', I'm not talking about 'fashion' - there is a distinction) |

| Thanks - I'll give them a try. Unfortunately, I've been out of circulation in this area for so long, the names that are still in my head would be famous regardless. |

| Newstwattie | Both David Bailey and Lord Patrick Litchfield have produced some very fine examples of glamour photography, including I believe pirelli calendars. You might want to look at the website for info on past calendar photographers. PIRELLI CALENDAR - OFFICIAL SITE |

| Litchfield and Bailey are photographers that I grew up with, and are the names that I would have suggested from the 1970's and 80's era. Litchfields been dead for a while and while Bailey still has an active studio, he's only one name and I can't find the same type of 'exposure' (no pun intended) that he once had as a glamour photographer. Litchfield, Snowdon and Bailey are the three photographers who influenced me the most when I was learning, and are therefore already pride of place in my research. Thanks, however.Litchfield especially has a place in my paper as, of all photographers, he was one of the driving forces in the digital revolution (commercially). He switched his entire studio across to digital even as far back as the late 1990's. While Bailey still lists Italian Vogue and similar magazines, it would seem that his fame is currently more in the fashion arena. 'Glamour' photographers with Maxim and FHM for example, don't seem to have the same level of individual fame. |
