Why am I like this?

My colonial movers model only requires a rader dish to end the modelling phase, my viper only requires an undercarriage, my battleship only needs a few more pipes and greebles.

This isn't loosing motivation, it seems to be some mental state that wont let me finish a model.

I am busy with decorating, I am tired pretty much all the time I'm not decorating, but I still spend a few hours each night online, time I could be modelling.

Why cant I just finish the damn thing?

I think you'll find there are a lot of people like you (myself included).

I don't really think there's anything wrong, just that we find ourselves strongly inspired to create but the inspiration leaves at some point.

The tiredness could simply be not enough sleep or sleeping at the wrong times.

I find I'm at my best when I just take a break from the art thing for a while, even if I'm inspired to create. Then come back to it full strength.

I get like that with a lot of my own private models. When I get paid to create stuff such as I did for BBC TV's Hyperdrive there's an end goal, firstly I'm going to get paid, secondly I know what the project is and that it's going to be on TV by a set date, thirdly the guys at the company who'll put my mesh on the screen are waiting for the mesh. So there's something to aim for and an end product as such. When I make my own meshes more often than not I get 75% done then move onto something else,I do occasionally go back and finish models sooner rather than later but that's not always the case !

Likewise- I think its both a confidence thing, as well as motivational/inspirational.

Hehe, the graveyard is growing on my HD. My problem is that I leave models for song long that by the time I get back to them I am more skilled than I was before, and I would be better off just doing it again better...and so I just leave them. Eventually I will finish one, I swear!

Jack O'Neill: Ba'al, come on. You should know. Of course, I dare mock you.

That guy nailed it right on the head. When you have a goal for it, a use and a reason for building it other than just to have it something clicks and you HAVE to finish it, it becomes like a life goal.

I used to never NEVER finish my personal projects (Just ask any long time runner on the forum) But now with my sirius and this animation I have big plans and a big goal; not only for the communities who are helping or the people that are involved but for my personal pride - to say I did something THIS big and I did it non-stop and learned alot on the way.

Don't think so much that you can't do it or that you wont finish it, because that line of thought will make happen exactly what you dont want to happen: you'll fail to finish it. Just find a good reason, a good plan and a good time and work like hell.

Worse comes to worse, speed model the damn thing! Stay up and MODEL your heart out as long as you can stay awake and just pound it out. That can be fun AND rewarding: "Omg, I did that... in 4hours?! YES!"

I hope that helped some Take care!

I won't let myself start anything else until I've finished what I started. 8 times outta 10 it works.

I have the same trouble quite often - to which many people can attest! I find the solution is to set myself goals. Declare to myself that I am going to achieve X this week, and Y the following week. If I don't do it, I work extra hard to try and catch up. This led to me being pretty tired at work all last week, but I don't care about that - my model was progressing at the desired pace and that was what mattered.

Ok, here is my solution! You know mmorpg's like WOW? they have some sort of objective, become a powerful player and be able to show off your high level player. So what i say we need is a mmoprg were you have to build 3d models that are the most detialed, and you get credits for each view/vote, then you can go...do...stuff....with those credits....

You will finish the job when you are good and ready. Don't beat yourself up over it.

People ask me why I don't make a career out of my art and I tell them I have no intention of putting myself on the clock over something I do for fun. If you are modelling for fun don't put pressure on yourself. It will soon turn into a chore and you will come to hate it.

Don't judge a man by his medals, but by his scars.
