Starship Hull Design

I'm not sure where to put this so mods, feel free to move this thread.

I'm trying to design a destroyer hull chassis that can be fitted as either a regular destroyer or a missile destroyer. Has the same basic chassis, just with different armaments.

Any help would be appreciated on how you guys would go about it.

huh!...what are you asking exactly?

it seems like you've already figured it out: build a 'chassis' which has the engines and bridge and stuff and then swappable sections that fulfill the different roles. what specifically is your problem with it?

I think he wants his destroyers (missile & regular) to have identical hull shape/design. The weapons on each type of type however will not only be different but placed differently too.

He wants advice on how to go about designing such a hull that would fit both ships.

That about sums it up. I'm just really not sure how to go about it though.

I refer thee to the much beloved original homeworld. Design a basic section with 'plugs' which can either then hold platforms (on which you can sit a variety of turrets) or missile pods. Generally, as long as your basic shape has space for these plugs you should be okay. But rather than get people to design it, why not post what you've got so far and let people give advice on changes??

Look on the bright side, I can't get any worse!

That's good idea but to be honest, I'm just drawing a blank right now. Maybe I'm just searching for inspiration.

In that case, draw a large T, put some boosters across the top piece, put her on her side, but a giant batterin ram on the nose and then put the weapons platforms just under where the T cross arms are... how's that?

Look on the bright side, I can't get any worse!

How about a basic design with hardpoints that can mount either turrets or box launcers?
