Stargate/Battlestar-meshes.com

Seriously, I think its time to re-name the site. The WIP forum is exclusively devoted to Stargate and BSG ships. Now, far be it for me to tell people what to model, but seriously, before launching into another generic battlestar or dull greeble-covered-box (Stargate ship) why not take pause to think about something else, something more interesting, or even original, to show off on the forums?

Rest assured, the next ship WIP I post WILL be an original design for an original universe. Why not try it youself as well?

Just my 2 cents on the subject of encouraging more originality.

If people feel they want to create a BSG or Staragte ship then why not?

If those shows have inspired others to create something then great for them.

It is not for you to decide what people can or cannot create on this site.

Since you WILL be making an original ship how lovely for you.

I'm not TELLING people what to do, just making a suggestion that, if people would be open to, might make the site more interesting.

Not wanting to be the social scientist mate but it's a simple case of following the fashion. Most people feel comfortable being sheep and doing what the crowd are doing.

I say don't sweat it and do your own thing.

Well the same can easily be said about your genres - Star Trek and Star Wars. People use the cannon they use because it's a pre-made base to work off of. Also alot of people do it because they are inspired by that Show or Genre.

Andrew, I get what you're saying, but I thought maybe a reminder that it doesn't need to be this way was in order. Whether anyone wants to consider my thoughts on the matter or not is of course, entirely up to them.

And Justin, notice that I'm not working on ANY Star Wars or Star Trek projects at the moment? Its because I'm tired of them and want to do new things.

hmm, so original designs meaning not on any sci-fi theme at all, has it ever occured to you that people just an't that creative enough to find an original design of something that isn't star trek or starwars heck even BSG or SG.

and to me 'Original' designs can still be 'Original' and still be in any theme, infact I like to see what kind of new designs people come up with on star trek, bsg or even sg themes, even the ships that have already been in the show to see how they delt with the detail, etc.

My Current WIP: USAF Argus DSC-351

This is very much a perception issue - there are a lot of Stargate / BSG meshes around at present, but on an average its not really any more than other genres that come and go out of fashion. I did a quick snapshot of the first few of pages of the WIPS, and this is what comes out:

Original 32%
BSG 17%
Star gate 17%
Trek 14%
Alien 7%
Warhammer 3%
SW 3%
BattleTech 3%

At 32%, it's nice to see more original work on the site than usual. There are also more originals on the following pages, so this figure may even be higher in reality.

No question is a stupid question if you don't know the answer - If you need help (and you can find us), ask the (Sens)A-Team.
