BSG on Sky - adverts

Is it just me or is anyone else getting totally p***** off with the number of advert breaks sky keep putting in . I counted 4 ad breaks in tuesdays episode (5 if you include the break between shows). How can they possibly justify that in a 50 minute show. Channel 4 have recently been told off by OFCOM for doing a similar thing with Lost.

Also the constant text at the top of the screen advising that you could be watching on HD channel blah blah and the constant pop ups for "Press Red for SG1 multistart" are really annoying. Hey Sky - I`m not a total idiot - I know how to use the TV guide on my didgibox and dont you think if I had spent £300 for a HD box on top of the £10 a month additional subscription charge for HD - I would know exactly what programs were being shown in HD.

I just find that the breaks totally detract from the drama and the text spoils the dark moody cinematography (not to mention the potential for burn in on my plasma screen).

Rant over

^ Sky been doing that for years, it really pissed me off when I had Sky, five min to the ep break, at the bottom of the hour a break, 3rd quarter of the hour break and finally another break five mins before the ep ends.

ITV have it right. 20 mins into an hour show break, another 20mins later another break. That 3 breaks per-hour including the break between TV shows. but then I don't watch ITV anymore except when they have a movie on.

But saying that I still wish I had Sky again.

I`m seriously considering cancelling sky - I only keep it for things like BSG.

With the cost of the upgrading to HD box and subscription - I could instead go out and buy a PS3 and 2-3 HD movies every month (or the entire series of BSG when it gets released on DVD). I saw season 1 box set for about £20 at the weekend and season 2 box set for £35 (not HD admittedly)

I want Sky, only the good sci-fi show are shown on it these days, Still waiting for CH5 to show season 2 of SG-A. It been nearly two years for christ sakes!

I got BSG season 1 for £10 from Virgin, when it was part of the Management Choose.
Season 2 I got for £20 of e-bay, it is the Australian box set, and it look a lot better than the Playback realised box set we have here. I will be getting season 3 of the same E-bay store when it realised.
the mini-serise you can get £7 at HMV

Unfortunately - sky knows this only too well and therefore uses it as a tool to push advertising really strongly. I`m getting to the stage where I would rather wait and at least be able to watch the episodes uniterupted. Of all of the channels on sky - Sky One is definately the worst for adverts. How they can possibly justify this when the basic subscription for sky costs loads more than the TV licence fee - youd think at the very least the sky owned channels would have fewer adverts - not more.

Very ture, you could alway put in a complaint into OFCOM, that is how CH4 got it hit.

Sky + is the answer! Or a DVD recorder that allows you to watch while recording.

I don't watch adverts any more. I simply start watch BSG 15 minutes after its started, and skip past the ads.

If I recall correctly, 4 ad breaks seems like what we get over here too.

It used to be 3 ads, one five min into an ep, one at the half way point and one five mins before it ended. That was on sky, ITV does it the way I mention above post, CH4 and five Followed the same as I just mention but Ch4 has gone a bit mad and has since had been fined for showing to many add during a program by OFCOM.

I have put in a complaint to both Sky and OFCOM.

Good point - may have to invest in a decent DVD recorder. Perhaps Skys game is to get people to sign up to Sky+ (or HD) - however I bet once enough people have gone over - they will find a way to get adverts onto a Sky+ recording too.
