My favourite battle is of course the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. I have no idea how ILM did those effects back then When it comes to newer productions, almost all scenes from Battlestar Galactica are really well done and I liked two scenes from new SW movies - the Geonosis battle and the landing of that huge ship (on Coruscant) at the beginning of Star Wars 3. I haven't watched many other movies but I did like most of the stuff from Star Trek Enterprise seasons 3 and 4 ... The other two seasons just didn't feel right when it comes to battles - except for the confrontation with Suliban cellships everything was dull , short or non-existent ("see what you can do about their engines" ... "engines disables" ... and there was no cgi in between :|)

^ I know what you mean for the Enterprise battle scenes for season's:1&2, but' don't forget, when they come to saying....Mr Reed, disable their engines, ey Captain..the Americans who own the programe writes are trying to save what money they can instead of showing a small shot that most likey will cost $5thousand dollars and above. Which is annoying to say but' it happens all the time in all SCIFI Movies and Programes.

My favourite space battle is a tie between the Enterprise E Vs Scimitar from ST: Nemesis and the battle above New Caprica in BSG in which the Pegasus sacrifices herself to save Galactica.

Both of these are brilliant battles, each very emotional and well done.

Yeah, I know that they try to save every cent they can but it doesn't make me feel better when I hear about something and then not see it I also think that it might have been because of Berman&Braga being in the lead - it was them who decided to use a DS9 (or Voyager) model of Klingon ship just because the one which CG artists did din't had enough windows ... Anyway, the problem of small shots didn't seem to be as big in the later seasons, especially the final episodes. If Enterprise wasn't cancelled before its time it would probably still be around 2008 and that way it would have even better CGI scenes ...

Enterprise showed alot of promise in it's 3rd and 4th seasons. Some of the fights against the Xindi, especially Azati Prime and the battle to save Earth were excellent.

I wish it had of lasted another 3 seasons but with B&B at the controls for most of it, Enterprise was doomed. The first two seasons were terrible at best, even worse than TNG's first season!

The whole "see what you can do about their engines" was just stupid. Even the Enterprise D couldn't easily take out a ships engines or weapons without doing damage to surrounding systems and just look at some of the TOS or Kirk era movie battles, no selective fire there!

My favorites would probably have to be the Battle of the Resurection Ship or the Battle of New Caprica from BSG, probably that little showdown that Pegasus and Galactica have as well. BSG battle scenes always have amazing graphics, and the soundtrack is great too, makes it that much more intense!

The opening battle of Revenge of the Sith is pretty good too, so is the battle in B5's Severed Dreams.

Oh yes, Severed Dreams and Resurrection Ship are incredible.

In Severed Dreams, you are constantly pulled between the fast paced action and the revolting fact that those are men killing each other. The climax with the Churchill ramming the other destroyer leaves you speechless.

In Resurrection Ship II, the idea of letting you see the gleams of the battle on Apollo's helmet is just brilliant. And so is the glimpse of all the cylon bodies behind the glasses before they are burned and blown out. They just dared to show a suicide and a war crime in space, and they asked you at the start of the episode if human kind deserved to live...

Both make me wonder how great scifi movies could be if the SW budgets and the like were spent on interesting stories.

^ I think seeing, the only other Military Colonial Vessel being scarificed to cover and and defend the out-going ships, is not what I would call, 'Good'....If you like watching the Programe as much me and other's around the globe, you'd agree it's a dramactic scene to be seen by us the viewer's, to honest it brought a tear to my eye and deepend my hart to now know the Galactica is once again on it's own.
