Ok, let's try to forget about that thread now please, for everyone's sake.

My favourite space battle has to be the Battle of Endor from Star Wars Episode 6 Return of the Jedi. The music is great (Into the Trap by John Williams), the ships are absolutly beautiful and it is well shot and is a really gripping part of the Star Wars Trilogy.

I'd remark how fresh that battle sequence feels now, with low to zero shakycam-ness, no superdirtydebris explosions, and actually letting us see what is happening (I love BSG and the like, but sometimes I really miss that ).

Star Wars 3 and Star Wars Return of the Jedi.
For resasons already said

Battlestars ambush and attack of the resurrection ship. The escape from New Caprica.

They really make them feel more like a work of art. As each battle is epic in its own right and in some cases beyond risky.

Wing Commander battles from the movie with the cap ships tossing Torpedoes.

It was different then the standard laser throwing contest.

All Enemies of the Terran Alliance shall be Destroyed and lost to the pages of History.

Battle Beyond the Stars... OK, I'm joking but as an homage to the Magnificent Seven it's a thing of pure joy...

Movies only?

Khan vs Kirk was special. It was a space battle and a personal battle at the same time, which gave it something much more than just ship vs ship.

Return of the Jedi certainly had the longest and although it has weak parts, it's certainly a great. The first time you see the Tie Fighters split up around the Falcon was pure adrenalin...

To name some other classics:

The fight in Last Star Fighter was a little bit too one sided, but a great example of hope from no hope.

Any late series B5 battle, especially the one where the janitor ended up being shown the fight first-hand was very well done

The submarine warfare-like battles of Wing Commander had a good level of tension to them

BSG was a little lacking in big fights, but the new mini-series end was a good tension building device

DS:9: A few bigguns, but the first time Star Fleet meet the Jem'Hadar (spelling?) and the Galaxy gets it's arse whopped is a bit of a classic, as is Way of the Warrior, though both look pretty dated now...
