Spielberg, Jackson to produce/direct CG Tintin movies.

entertainment.iafrica.com | news Spielberg, Jackson join up for 'Tintin'

I've been wanting to see a Tintin movie since I first picked up a Tintin book about 18 years ago. Oh sure, there was the TV cartoon series, which was excellent, but a big-screen version could potentially be exceptionally cool.

Apparently they are to be done in CG. They are going to pick three of the graphic novels to base three films on, with Spielberg and Jackson each directing one of them, though presumably they'd have to decide which one of them got the third installment (maybe they could twist George Lucas's arm?)

Could be very cool. Or they could totally suck. But with Peter Jackson involved, one has a bit more confidence in the project than one would if it was Spielberg alone.

Never been much of a fan of Tin Tin, although the live action Asterix books turned out ok, so who knows.

Hmmm not a good choice to me. Animated films are a different realm and ther eare great animation directors that would do a better job. They are going to much for realism wich does not work you have to strike a balace. Teh most sucessful CG films ar ento the most realistic. They are the ones which have character. I will wait and see.

Yay for Tintin on big screen! I'm iffy on the whole photorealistic aspect though. Hergé's clean and expressive style is definitely a big part of the appeal of the comic books, at least for me. But we'll see.

So which books would you like to see?

hmm, tough one. Its tempting to say Explorers On The Moon, but its almost a carbon copy of the old George Pal film. It would probably be worthwhile adapting the big two-parters though. And Explorers is one of them. But I'm not sure about that one as a film. Flight 714 would be excellent. Crab With The Golden Claws is a good one, it introduces Captain Haddock.

Really is a tough one to call.

I definitely agree on that one man.

Funny, those were the two that came to mind with me as well.

I'd like to see The Blue Lotus (obviously that'd mean Cigars of the Pharaoh as well). The Moon stories would be cool just because I'd love to see that rocket on big screen.

The Calculus Affair, Flight 714 and Crab with the Golden Claws would be good stand-alone picks.

But yeah, it's a tough call.

I'm really not sure about this at all really. Seeing TinTin on the big screen would be nice, but it will hardly be a new thing - we've had French B&W movies and two generations of TV cartoons - the latter doing a good job to keep those clean Herge lines.

It would be nice to see something fresh. It sounds to me of yet abother case of them jumping on a big iconic name.

No question is a stupid question if you don't know the answer - If you need help (and you can find us), ask the (Sens)A-Team.

Flight 714 was definitely my favourite, The Calculus Affair was also really good, Red Rackham's Treasure was another favourite, of course the Moon stories, Cigar's of the Pharaoh, lot's of them actually.
It was amazing how far he travelled in some of the stories.
