| SFM Guru | 3Ds Max8 on intel GMA950 Hi, I'm thinking about replacing my notebook with a macbook, I wouldn't mind the ability to run 3ds max on it. However, the graphics chip is a gma950 and I'm not sure if it will be enough. Now max runs on the currenty geforce go420 that's in my current notebook, but it eventually craps out videomemory wise (only 32MB). Is there anyone here that runs max with a gma950 chip? |

| Lt Col Comrade Boris Spry | Unless you put windows onto your mac via BootCamp, you wont be running Max anytime soon. And running under emulation would just be very very slow, considering what a RAM and graphic hog max would be. I find this chipset to be quite good, although sometimes, there are quite a few noticeable slowdowns. |

| SFM Nugget | Its a shared RAM video card, so to get any decent performance from it, you'll need a ton of base RAM to play with. It only uses OpenGL 1.4 and it's fair at Dx9 acceleration, so don't expect fast screen updates on complex scenes. It will do the job, but there are better mobile gfx cards around, but thats up to the notebook manufacturers to decide which ones to fit...... |
